Opposition in the Last Days
1But understand this, that in the last days hard times will come—
2for people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,
3hardhearted, unforgiving, backbiting, without self-control, brutal, hating what is good,
4treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
5holding to an outward form of godliness but denying its power. Avoid these people!
6For among these are those who slip into households and deceive weak women weighed down with sins, led away by various desires,
7always learning yet never able to come to the knowledge of truth.
8Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so do these people oppose the truth, men corrupted in mind and worthless concerning the faith.
9But these people will not make any more progress—for their folly, like that of Jannes and Jambres, will be obvious to everyone.
10You, however, closely followed my teaching, manner of life, purpose, faithfulness, patience, love, perseverance—
11as well as persecutions and sufferings that happened to me in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. What persecutions I endured! And the Lord rescued me from them all!
12Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Messiah Yeshua will be persecuted.
13But evil men and imposters will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.
All Scripture Equips God’s People
14You, however, continue in what you have learned and what you have become convinced of. For you know from whom you have learned,
15and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings that are able to make you wise, leading to salvation through trusting in Messiah Yeshua.
16All Scripture is inspired by God and useful for teaching, for reproof, for restoration, and for training in righteousness,
17so that the person belonging to God may be capable, fully equipped for every good deed.

Avoid people like this
1Understand that the last days will be dangerous times. 2People will be selfish and love money. They will be the kind of people who brag and who are proud. They will slander others, and they will be disobedient to their parents. They will be ungrateful, unholy, 3unloving, contrary, and critical. They will be without self-control and brutal, and they won’t love what is good. 4They will be people who are disloyal, reckless, and conceited. They will love pleasure instead of loving God. 5They will look like they are religious but deny God’s power. Avoid people like this. 6Some will slither into households and control immature women who are burdened with sins and driven by all kinds of desires. 7These women are always learning, but they can never arrive at an understanding of the truth. 8These people oppose the truth in the same way that Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses. Their minds are corrupt and their faith is counterfeit. 9But they won’t get very far. Their foolishness will become obvious to everyone like those others.
Take Paul as your model
10But you have paid attention to my teaching, conduct, purpose, faithfulness, patience, love, and endurance. 11You have seen me experience physical abuse and ordeals in places such as Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. I put up with all sorts of abuse, and the Lord rescued me from it all! 12In fact, anyone who wants to live a holy life in Christ Jesus will be harassed. 13But evil people and swindlers will grow even worse, as they deceive others while being deceived themselves.
14But you must continue with the things you have learned and found convincing. You know who taught you. 15Since childhood you have known the holy scriptures that help you to be wise in a way that leads to salvation through faith that is in Christ Jesus. 16Every scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for showing mistakes, for correcting, and for training character, 17so that the person who belongs to God can be equipped to do everything that is good.
