Known as “the epistle of joy,” Philippians is full of encouragement and hope. Although imprisoned in Rome, Paul rejoices at the gospel’s advancement. No local church of Jesus Christ progresses beyond its leaders. When Paul made his farewell to the elders he had trained in the church in Ephesus in Acts 20, he presented the record of his ministry with them as an example of true spiritual leadership that faithfully built up the church.
