Titus 2

Instructions for Different Groups of People
1Titus, you must teach only what is correct. 2Tell the older men to have self-control and to be serious and sensible. Their faith, love, and patience must never fail.
3Tell the older women to behave as those who love the Lord should. They must not gossip about others or be slaves of wine. They must teach what is proper, 4so the younger women will be loving wives and mothers. 5Each of the younger women must be sensible and kind, as well as a good homemaker, who puts her own husband first. Then no one can say insulting things about God's message.
6Tell the young men to have self-control in everything.
7Always set a good example for others. Be sincere and serious when you teach. 8Use clean language that no one can criticize. Do this, and your enemies will be too ashamed to say anything against you.
9Tell slaves always to please their owners by obeying them in everything. Slaves must not talk back to their owners 10or steal from them. They must be completely honest and trustworthy. Then everyone will show great respect for what is taught about God our Savior.
God's Kindness and the New Life
11God has shown us undeserved grace by coming to save all people. 12He taught us to give up our wicked ways and our worldly desires and to live decent and honest lives in this world. 13We are filled with hope, as we wait for the glorious return of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.#2.13 the glorious return of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ: Or “the glorious return of our great God and our Savior Jesus Christ” or “the return of Jesus Christ, who is the glory of our great God and Savior.” 14#Ps 130.8; Ex 19.5; Dt 4.20; 7.6; 14.2; 1 P 2.9. He gave himself to rescue us from everything evil and to make our hearts pure. He wanted us to be his own people and to be eager to do right.
15Teach these things, as you use your full authority to encourage and correct people. Make sure you earn everyone's respect.

Advice for Behavior in Community
1But as for you, speak things that are fitting for sound instruction.
2Older men are to be clear-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, in patience.
3Likewise, older women are to be sanctified in demeanor—not backbiting or enslaved to much wine. Let them be teachers of what is good,
4so that they may train the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,
5to be self-controlled, pure, managing their household, kind, submitted to their own husbands, so that God’s word may not be dishonored.
6Likewise urge the younger men to be self-controlled,
7in all things showing yourself to be an example of good deeds—integrity in instruction, dignity,
8sound speech beyond criticism—so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.
9Urge slaves to submit themselves to their own masters in all things, well-pleasing and not back-talking,
10not stealing but showing all good faithfulness, so that they may do credit to the teaching about God our Savior in everything.
11For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men,
12training us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live in a manner that is self-controlled and righteous and godly in the present age.
13We wait for the blessed hope and appearance of the glory of our great God and Savior, Messiah Yeshua.
14He gave Himself for us so that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and so that He might purify for Himself a chosen people, zealous for good deeds.
15So communicate these things, and encourage and correct with complete authority. Let no one look down on you.
