Psalms 118
118
The Lord Is Always Merciful
1 #
1 Ch 16.34; 2 Ch 5.11-13; 7.3; Ezra 3.11; Ps 100.5; 106.1; 107.1; 136.1; Jr 33.11. Tell the Lord
how thankful you are,
because he is kind
and always merciful.
2Let Israel shout,
“God is always merciful!”
3Let the family of Aaron
the priest shout,
“God is always merciful!”
4Let every true worshiper
of the Lord shout,
“God is always merciful!”
5When I was really hurting,
I prayed to the Lord.
He answered my prayer,
and took my worries away.
6 #
He 13.6. The Lord is on my side,
and I am not afraid
of what others can do to me.
7With the Lord on my side,
I will defeat
my hateful enemies.
8It is better to trust the Lord
for protection
than to trust anyone else,
9including strong leaders.
10Nations surrounded me,
but I got rid of them
by the power of the Lord.
11They attacked from all sides,
but I got rid of them
by the power of the Lord.
12They swarmed around like bees,
but by the power of the Lord,
I got rid of them
and their fiery sting.
13Their attacks were so fierce
that I nearly fell,
but the Lord helped me.
14 #
Ex 15.2; Is 12.2. My power and my strength
come from the Lord,
and he has saved me.
15From the tents of God's people
come shouts of victory:
“The Lord is powerful!
16With his mighty arm
the Lord wins victories!
The Lord is powerful!”
17And so my life is safe,
and I will live to tell
what the Lord has done.
18He punished me terribly,
but he did not let death
lay its hands on me.
19Open the gates of justice!
I will enter and tell the Lord
how thankful I am.
20Here is the gate of the Lord!
Everyone who does right
may enter this gate.
21I praise the Lord
for answering my prayers
and saving me.

Lk 20.17; Ac 4.11; 1 P 2.7. #Mt 21.42; Mk 12.10,11. The stone that the builders
tossed aside
has now become
the most important stone.
23The Lord has done this,
and it is amazing to us.
24This day belongs to the Lord!
Let's celebrate
and be glad today.
25 #
Mt 21.9; Mk 11.9; Jn 12.13. We'll ask the Lord to save us!
We'll sincerely ask the Lord
to let us win.
26 #
Mt 21.9; 23.39; Mk 11.9; Lk 13.35; 19.38; Jn 12.13. God bless the one who comes
in the name of the Lord!
We praise you from here
in the house of the Lord.
27The Lord is our God,
and he has given us light!
Start the celebration!
March with palm branches
all the way to the altar.#118.27 Start … altar: One possible meaning for the difficult Hebrew text.
28The Lord is my God!
I will praise him and tell him
how thankful I am.
29Tell the Lord
how thankful you are,
because he is kind
and always merciful.

Tehillim (Psalms) 118
118
1Oh, give thanks to יהוה, for He is good! Because His loving-commitment is everlasting.
2Let Yisra’ĕl now say, “His loving-commitment is everlasting.”
3Let the house of Aharon now say, “His loving-commitment is everlasting.”
4Let those who fear יהוה now say, “His loving-commitment is everlasting.”
5I called on Yah in distress; Yah answered me in a broad place.
6יהוה is on my side; I do not fear what man does to me!
7יהוה is for me among those helping me; Therefore I look on those hating me.
8It is better to take refuge in יהוה Than to trust in man.
9It is better to take refuge in יהוה Than to trust in princes.
10All the nations surrounded me, In the Name of יהוה I shall cut them off.
11They surrounded me, Yes, they surrounded me; In the Name of יהוה shall I cut them off.
12They surrounded me like bees; They were extinguished like burning thorns; In the Name of יהוה I shall cut them off.
13Pushing, the enemy pushed me to fall, But יהוה helped me.
14Yah is my strength and song, And He has become my deliverance.#See footnote at Exo. 15:2
15The voice of rejoicing and deliverance Is in the tents of the righteous; The right hand of יהוה is doing mightily.
16The right hand of יהוה is exalted, The right hand of יהוה acts mightily.
17Let me not die, but live, And declare the works of Yah.
18Yah has punished me severely, But did not give me over to death.
19Open to me the gates of righteousness; I enter through them, I thank Yah.
20This is the gate of יהוה, The righteous enter through it.
21I thank You, For You have answered me, And have become my deliverance.
22The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief corner-stone.#See also Acts. 4:11
23This was from יהוה, It is marvellous in our eyes.
24This is the day יהוה has made, Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
25I pray, O יהוה, please save us now;#Hebrew: Hoshianah. I pray, O יהוה, please send prosperity.
26Blessed is He who is coming in the Name of יהוה!#See Mat. 21:9; John 12:13 and Deu. 18:18, 19, 20 We shall bless you from the House of יהוה.
27יהוה is Ěl, and He gave us light; Bind the festival offering With cords to the horns of the slaughter-place.
28You are my Ěl, and I praise You; You are my Elohim, I exalt You.
29Give thanks to יהוה, for He is good! For His loving-commitment is everlasting.
