2 Timothy 1
1
1From Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus.
God himself chose me to be an apostle, and he gave me the promised life that Jesus Christ makes possible.

Ac 16.1. Timothy, you are like a dear child to me. I pray that God our Father and our Lord Christ Jesus will be kind and merciful to you and will bless you with peace!
Do Not Be Ashamed of the Lord
3Night and day I mention you in my prayers. I am always grateful for you, as I pray to the God my ancestors and I have served with a clear conscience. 4I remember how you cried, and I want to see you, because this would make me truly happy. 5#Ac 16.1. I also remember the genuine faith of your mother Eunice. Your grandmother Lois had the same sort of faith, and I am sure you have it as well. 6So I ask you to make full use of the gift God gave you when I placed my hands on you.#1.6 when I placed my hands on you: Church leaders placed their hands on people who were being appointed to preach or teach (see 2 Timothy 4.14). Use it well. 7God's Spirit#1.7 God's Spirit: Or “God.” doesn't make cowards out of us. The Spirit gives us power, love, and self-control.
8Don't be ashamed to speak for our Lord. And don't be ashamed of me, just because I am in jail for serving him. Use the power that comes from God and join with me in suffering for telling the good news.
9God saved us and chose us
to be his holy people.
We did nothing
to deserve this,
but God planned it
because he is so kind.
Even before time began
God planned for Christ Jesus
to show kindness to us.
10Now Christ Jesus has come
to offer us God's gift
of undeserved grace.
Christ our Savior defeated death
and brought us
the good news.
It shines like a light
and offers life
that never ends.

1 Ti 2.7. My work is to be a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher.#1.11 teacher: Some manuscripts add “of the Gentiles.” 12This is why I am suffering now. But I am not ashamed! I know the one I have faith in, and I am sure he can guard until the last day what he has trusted me with.#1.12 what he has trusted me with: Or “what I have trusted him with.” 13Now follow the example of the correct teaching I gave you, and let the faith and love of Christ Jesus be your model. 14You have been trusted with a wonderful treasure. Guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit, who lives within us.
15You know that everyone in Asia has turned against me, especially Phygelus and Hermogenes.
16I pray that the Lord will be kind to the family of Onesiphorus. He often cheered me up and wasn't ashamed of me when I was put in jail. 17Then after he arrived in Rome, he searched everywhere until he found me. 18I pray that the Lord Jesus will ask God to show mercy to Onesiphorus on the day of judgment. You know how much he helped me in Ephesus.

2 Timothy 1
1
Paul Encourages Timothy
1From Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God. God sent me to tell about the promise of life that is in Christ Jesus.
2To Timothy, a dear son to me. Grace, mercy, and peace to you from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
3I always remember you in my prayers, day and night. And I thank God for you in these prayers. He is the God my ancestors served. And I serve him, doing what I know is right. 4I remember that you cried for me. And I want very much to see you so that I can be filled with joy. 5I remember your true faith. That kind of faith first belonged to your grandmother Lois and to your mother Eunice. And I know that you now have that same faith. 6That is why I remind you to use the gift God gave you. God gave you that gift when I laid my hands on# A sign to show that Paul had power from God to give Timothy a special blessing. you. Now let it grow, as a small flame grows into a fire. 7God did not give us a spirit that makes us afraid. He gave us a spirit of power and love and self-control.
8So do not be ashamed to tell people about our Lord Jesus. And do not be ashamed of me. I am in prison for the Lord. But suffer with me for the Good News. God gives us the strength to do that. 9God saved us and made us his holy people. That was not because of anything we did ourselves but because of what he wanted and because of his grace. That grace was given to us through Christ Jesus before time began. 10It was not shown to us until our Savior Christ Jesus came. Jesus destroyed death. And through the Good News, he showed us the way to have life that cannot be destroyed. 11I was chosen to tell that Good News and to be an apostle and a teacher. 12And I suffer now because I tell the Good News. But I am not ashamed. I know Jesus, the One I have believed in. And I am sure that he is able to protect what he has trusted me with until that Day.# The day Christ will come to judge all people and take his people to live with him. 13Follow the true teachings you heard from me. Follow them as an example of the faith and love we have in Christ Jesus. 14Protect the truth that you were given. Protect it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.
15You know that everyone in Asia has left me, even Phygelus and Hermogenes. 16I pray that the Lord will show mercy to the family of Onesiphorus. He has often helped me and was not ashamed that I was in prison. 17When he came to Rome, he looked for me until he found me. 18I pray that the Lord will allow Onesiphorus to have mercy from the Lord on that Day. You know how many ways Onesiphorus helped me in Ephesus.
