The LORD's Message about Philistia
1 #
Is 14.29–31; Ezek 25.15–17; Joel 3.4–8; Amos 1.6–8; Zeph 2.4–7; Zech 9.5–7 Before the king of Egypt attacked Gaza, the LORD spoke to me about Philistia. 2He said:
“Look! Waters are rising in the north
and will rush like a river in flood.
They will cover the land and everything on it,
cities and the people who live there.
People will call out for help;
everyone on earth will cry bitterly.
3They will hear the hoof beats of horses,
the clatter of chariots,
the rumble of wheels.
Parents will not turn back for their children;
their hands will hang limp at their sides.
4The time has come to destroy Philistia,
to cut off from Tyre and Sidon
all the help that remains.
I, the LORD, will destroy the Philistines,
all who came from the shores of Crete.
5Great sorrow has come to the people of Gaza,
and Ashkelon's people are silent.
How long will the rest of Philistia mourn?
6You cry out, ‘Sword of the LORD!
How long will you go on slashing?
Go back to your scabbard,
stay there and rest!’
7But how can it rest,
when I have given it work to do?
I have commanded it to attack Ashkelon
and the people who live on the coast.”

Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 47
47
1The word of יהוה that came to Yirmeyahu the prophet concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh struck Azzah:
2Thus said יהוה, “See, waters are rising out of the north, and shall be an overflowing flood. And they shall overflow the land and all that is in it, the city and those who dwell within. And men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall wail.
3“At the noise of the stamping hooves of his strong horses, at the rushing of his chariots, at the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers shall not look to their children, because of weakness of hands,
4because of the day that shall come to ravage all the Philistines, to cut off from Tsor and Tsiḏon every helper that survives. For יהוה is ravaging the Philistines, the remnant of the isle of Kaphtor.
5“Baldness shall come upon Azzah, Ashqelon shall be cut off with the remnant of their valley. Till when would you cut yourself?
6“O you sword of יהוה, how long till you rest? Put yourself up into your sheath, rest and be still!
7“How shall it rest, when יהוה has given it a command? Against Ashqelon and against the seashore – there He has appointed it.”
