1 Timothy 4

False Teachers
1The Spirit says clearly that some people will abandon the faith in later times; they will obey lying spirits and follow the teachings of demons. 2Such teachings are spread by deceitful liars, whose consciences are dead, as if burnt with a hot iron. 3Such people teach that it is wrong to marry and to eat certain foods. But God created those foods to be eaten, after a prayer of thanks, by those who are believers and have come to know the truth. 4Everything that God has created is good; nothing is to be rejected, but everything is to be received with a prayer of thanks, 5because the word of God and the prayer make it acceptable to God.
A Good Servant of Christ Jesus
6If you give these instructions to the believers, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, as you feed yourself spiritually on the words of faith and of the true teaching which you have followed. 7But keep away from those godless legends, which are not worth telling. Keep yourself in training for a godly life. 8Physical exercise has some value, but spiritual exercise is valuable in every way, because it promises life both for the present and for the future. 9This is a true saying, to be completely accepted and believed. 10We struggle#4.10 struggle; some manuscripts have are reviled. and work hard, because we have placed our hope in the living God, who is the Saviour of all and especially of those who believe.
11Give them these instructions and these teachings. 12Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, but be an example for the believers in your speech, your conduct, your love, faith, and purity. 13Until I come, give your time and effort to the public reading of the Scriptures and to preaching and teaching. 14Do not neglect the spiritual gift that is in you, which was given to you when the prophets spoke and the elders laid their hands on you. 15Practise these things and devote yourself to them, in order that your progress may be seen by all. 16Watch yourself and watch your teaching. Keep on doing these things, because if you do, you will save both yourself and those who hear you.

I Timothy 4

The Great Apostasy
1Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed #2 Tim. 3:13; Rev. 16:14to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, 2#Matt. 7:15speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience #Eph. 4:19seared with a hot iron, 3forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 4For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; 5for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
A Good Servant of Jesus Christ
6If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, #2 Tim. 3:14nourished in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have carefully followed. 7But #2 Tim. 2:16; Titus 1:14reject profane and old wives’ fables, and #Heb. 5:14exercise yourself toward godliness. 8For #1 Cor. 8:8bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, #Ps. 37:9having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come. 9This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance. 10For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, #Ps. 36:6who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe. 11These things command and teach.
Take Heed to Your Ministry
12Let no one despise your youth, but be an #Phil. 3:17; Titus 2:7; 1 Pet. 5:3example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity. 13Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. 14#2 Tim. 1:6Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy #Acts 6:6; 1 Tim. 5:22with the laying on of the hands of the eldership. 15Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all. 16Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.
