The angel and the little scroll
1I saw another powerful angel come down from heaven. This one was covered with a cloud, and a rainbow was over his head. His face was like the sun, his legs were like columns of fire, 2and with his hand he held a little scroll#10.2 scroll: See the note at 5.1. that had been unrolled. He stood there with his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land. 3Then he shouted with a voice that sounded like a growling lion. Thunder roared seven times.
4After the thunder stopped, I was about to write what it had said. But a voice from heaven shouted, “Keep it secret! Don't write these things.”
5The angel I had seen standing on the sea and the land then held his right hand up towards heaven.#Ex 20.11; Dt 32.40; Dn 12.7; Am 3.7. 6He made a promise in the name of God who lives for ever and who created heaven, earth, the sea, and every living creature. The angel said, “You won't have to wait any longer. 7God told his secret plans to his servants the prophets, and it will all happen by the time the seventh angel sounds his trumpet.”
8Once again the voice from heaven spoke to me. It said, “Go and take the open scroll from the hand of the angel standing on the sea and the land.”#Ez 2.8—3.3.
9When I went over to ask the angel for the little scroll, the angel said, “Take the scroll and eat it! Your stomach will turn sour, but the taste in your mouth will be as sweet as honey.” 10I took the little scroll from the hand of the angel and ate it. The taste was as sweet as honey, but my stomach turned sour.
11Then some voices said, “Keep on telling what will happen to the people of many nations, races, and languages, and also to kings.”

The Angel and the Little Scroll
1Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven. He was wearing a cloud like a robe. There was a rainbow above his head. His face was like the sun. His legs were like pillars of fire. 2He was holding a little scroll. It was lying open in his hand. The angel put his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land. 3Then he gave a loud shout like the roar of a lion. When he shouted, the voices of the seven thunders spoke. 4When they had spoken, I was getting ready to write. But I heard a voice from heaven say, “Seal up what the seven thunders have said. Do not write it down.”
5I had seen an angel standing on the sea and on the land. This angel raised his right hand to heaven. 6He made a promise in the name of the God who lives for ever and ever. This is the God who created the sky, earth and sea and all that is in them. The angel said, “There will be no more waiting! 7God’s plan will be carried out. This will happen when the seventh angel is ready to blow his trumpet. God told all this to the prophets who served him long ago.”
8Then the voice I had heard from heaven spoke to me again. It said, “The angel is standing on the sea and on the land. Go and take the scroll from him. It is lying open in his hand.”
9So I went to the angel and asked him to give me the little scroll. He said to me, “Take it and eat it. It will become sour in your stomach. But ‘in your mouth it will taste as sweet as honey.’ ” (Ezekiel 3:3) 10I took the little scroll from the angel’s hand and ate it. In my mouth it tasted as sweet as honey. But when I had eaten it, it became sour in my stomach. 11Then I was told, “You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, languages and kings.”
