A prophecy from John
1This is what God showed to Jesus Christ, so that he could tell his servants what must happen soon. Christ then sent his angel with the message to his servant John. 2And John told everything that he had seen about God's message and about what Jesus Christ had said and done.

A vision of the living Lord
A vision of the risen Lord
9I am John, a follower together with all of you. We suffer because Jesus is our king, but he gives us the strength to endure. I was sent to Patmos Island,#1.9 Patmos Island: A small island where prisoners were sometimes kept by the Romans. because I had preached God's message and had told about Jesus. 10On the Lord's day the Spirit took control of me, and behind me I heard a loud voice that sounded like a trumpet. 11The voice said, “Write in a book what you see. Then send it to the seven churches in Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea.”#1.11 Ephesus…Laodicea: Ephesus was in the centre with the six other cities forming a half-circle around it.
12When I turned to see who was speaking to me, I saw seven gold lampstands. 13There with the lampstands was someone who seemed to be the Son of Man.#1.13 Son of Man: That is, Jesus. He was wearing a robe that reached down to his feet, and a gold cloth was wrapped around his chest.#Dn 7.13; Dn 10.5. 14His head and his hair were white as wool or snow, and his eyes looked like flames of fire.#Dn 7.9.#Dn 10.6. 15His feet were glowing like bronze being heated in a furnace, and his voice sounded like the roar of a waterfall.#Ez 1.24; 43.2. 16He held seven stars in his right hand, and a sharp double-edged sword was coming from his mouth. His face was shining as bright as the sun at midday.
17When I saw him, I fell at his feet like a dead person. But he put his right hand on me and said:#Is 44.6; 48.12; Rev 2.8; 22.13.
Don't be afraid! I am the first, the last, 18and the living one. I died, but now I am alive for evermore, and I have the keys to death and the world of the dead.#1.18 keys to death and the world of the dead: That is, power over death and the world of the dead. 19Write what you have seen and what is and what will happen after these things. 20I will explain the mystery of the seven stars that you saw at my right side and the seven gold lampstands. The seven stars are the angels#1.20 angels: Perhaps guardian angels that represent the churches, or they may be church leaders or messengers sent to the churches. of the seven churches, and the lampstands are the seven churches.

1Revelation of יהושע Messiah, which Elohim gave Him to show His servants what has to take place with speed. And He signified it by sending His messenger to His servant Yoḥanan,
2who bore witness to the Word of Elohim, and the witness of יהושע Messiah – to all he saw.
3Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and guard what is written in it, for the time is near.
4Yoḥanan, to the seven assemblies that are in Asia: Favour to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is coming, and from the seven Spirits that are before His throne,
5and from יהושע Messiah, the trustworthy witness, the first-born from the dead, and the ruler of the sovereigns of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood,
6and has made us sovereigns and priests to His Elohim and Father, to Him be esteem and rule forever and ever. Amĕn.
7See, He is coming with the clouds,#Dan. 7:13 and every eye shall see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth shall mourn because of Him.#Zech. 12:10 Yes, Amĕn.
8“I am the ‘Aleph’ and the ‘Taw’, Beginning and End,” says יהוה “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”
9I, Yoḥanan, both your brother and co-sharer in pressure, and in the reign and endurance of יהושע Messiah, came to be on the island that is called Patmos for the Word of Elohim and for the witness of יהושע Messiah.
10I came to be in the Spirit on the Day of יהוה,#See also Isa. 13:6; Isa. 13:9; Ezek. 13:5; Joel 1:15; Joel 2:1; Joel 2:11; Joel 2:31; Joel 3:14; Amos 5:16-20; Obad. 1:15; Zep. 1:7; Zep. 1:14; Mal. 4:5; Acts 2:20; 1Thes. 5:2; 2Thes. 2:2; 2Pe. 3:10 and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet,
11saying, “I am the ‘Aleph’ and the ‘Taw’, the First and the Last,” and, “Write in a book what you see and send it to the seven assemblies of Asia – to Ephesos, and to Smurna, and to Pergamos, and to Thyatira, and to Sardis, and to Philadelphia, and to Laodikeia.”
12And I turned to see the voice which spoke with me. And having turned, I saw seven golden lampstands,#Zech. 4:2
13and in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Aḏam,#Dan. 7:13 dressed in a robe down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band.#Dan. 10:5
14And His head and hair were white as white wool, as snow, and His eyes as a flame of fire,
15and His feet like burnished brass,#Dan. 10:6 as if refined in a furnace, and His voice as the sound of many waters.#Eze. 1:24; Eze. 43:2
16And in His right hand He held seven stars, and out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword,#See Rev. 2:16; Isa. 49:2; Heb. 4:12 and His face was as the sun shining in its strength.
17And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead, and He placed His right hand on me, saying, “Do not be afraid, I am the First and the Last,#Isa. 44:6; Isa. 48:12
18and the living One. And I became dead, and see, I am living forever and ever. Amĕn. And I possess the keys of She’ol#See Explanatory Notes "She’ol". and of Death.
19“Write therefore what you have seen, both what is now and what shall take place after these:
20“The secret of the seven stars which you saw in My right hand, and the seven golden lampstands: The seven stars are messengers of the seven assemblies, and the seven lampstands which you saw are seven assemblies.
