The priestly clothes are made
Making the priestly clothes
(Exodus 28.1-14)
1Beautiful priestly clothes were made of blue, purple, and red wool for Aaron to wear when he performed his duties in the holy place. This was done exactly as the LORD had commanded Moses.
2-3The entire priestly apron was made of fine linen, woven with blue, purple, and red wool. Thin sheets of gold were hammered out and cut into threads that were skilfully woven into the apron. 4-5It had two shoulder straps to support it and a sash that fastened around the waist. 6Onyx#39.6 Onyx: See the note at 25.7. stones were placed in gold settings, and each one was engraved with the name of one of Israel's sons. 7Then these were attached to the shoulder straps of the apron, so the LORD would never forget his people. Everything was done exactly as the LORD had commanded Moses.
The breastpiece
(Exodus 28.15-30)
8The breastpiece was made with the same materials and designs as the priestly apron. 9It was twenty-two centimetres square and folded double 10with four rows of three precious stones: a carnelian, a chrysolite, and an emerald were in the first row; 11a turquoise, a sapphire, and a diamond were in the second row; 12a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst were in the third row; 13and a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper#39.13 jasper: For the stones mentioned in verses 10-13, see the note at 28.20. were in the fourth row. They were mounted in a delicate gold setting, 14and on each of them was engraved the name of one of the twelve tribes of Israel.
15-18Two gold rings were attached to the upper front corners of the breastpiece and fastened with two braided gold chains to gold settings on the shoulder straps. 19Two other gold rings were attached to the lower inside corners next to the apron, 20and two more near the bottom of the shoulder straps just above the sash. 21To keep the breastpiece in place, a blue cord was used to tie the two lower rings on the breastpiece to those on the apron. These things were done exactly as the LORD had commanded Moses.
The clothes for the priests
(Exodus 28.31-43)
22The priestly robe was made of blue wool 23with an opening in the centre for the head. The material around the collar was bound so as to keep it from fraying. 24-26Along the hem of the robe were woven pomegranates#39.24-26 pomegranates: See the note at 28.33,34. of blue, purple, and red wool with a bell of pure gold between each of them. This robe was to be worn by Aaron when he performed his duties.
27-29Everything that Aaron and his sons wore was made of fine linen woven with blue, purple, and red wool, including their robes and turbans, their fine caps and underwear, and even their sashes that were embroidered with needlework.
30“Dedicated to the LORD” was engraved on a narrow strip of pure gold, 31which was fastened to Aaron's turban. These things were done exactly as the LORD had commanded Moses.
The work is completed
(Exodus 35.10-19)
32So the people of Israel finished making everything the LORD had told Moses to make. 33Then they brought it all to Moses: the sacred tent and its equipment, including the hooks, the framework and crossbars, and its posts and stands; 34the covering of tanned ram skins and fine leather; the inside curtain; 35the sacred chest with its carrying poles and the place of mercy; 36the table with all that goes on it, including the sacred bread; 37the lampstand of pure gold, together with its equipment and oil; 38the gold-covered incense altar; the ordination oil and the sweet-smelling incense; the curtain for the entrance to the tent; 39the bronze altar for sacrifices with its bronze grating, its carrying poles, and its equipment; the large bronze bowl with its stand; 40the curtain with its posts and cords, and its pegs and stands that go around the courtyard; everything needed for the sacred tent; 41and the finely woven priestly clothes for Aaron and his sons.
42-43When Moses saw that the people had done everything exactly as the LORD had commanded, he gave them his blessing.

The priestly garments
1From the blue, purple and scarlet yarn they made woven garments for ministering in the sanctuary. They also made sacred garments for Aaron, as the Lord commanded Moses.
The ephod
2They#39:2 Or He; also in verses 7, 8 and 22 made the ephod of gold, and of blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and of finely twisted linen. 3They hammered out thin sheets of gold and cut strands to be worked into the blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen – the work of skilled hands. 4They made shoulder pieces for the ephod, which were attached to two of its corners, so that it could be fastened. 5Its skilfully woven waistband was like it – of one piece with the ephod and made with gold, and with blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and with finely twisted linen, as the Lord commanded Moses.
6They mounted the onyx stones in gold filigree settings and engraved them like a seal with the names of the sons of Israel. 7Then they fastened them on the shoulder pieces of the ephod as memorial stones for the sons of Israel, as the Lord commanded Moses.
The breastpiece
8They fashioned the breastpiece – the work of a skilled craftsman. They made it like the ephod: of gold, and of blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and of finely twisted linen. 9It was square – a span#39:9 That is, about 23 centimetres long and a span wide – and folded double. 10Then they mounted four rows of precious stones on it. The first row was carnelian, chrysolite and beryl; 11the second row was turquoise, lapis lazuli and emerald; 12the third row was jacinth, agate and amethyst; 13the fourth row was topaz, onyx and jasper.#39:13 The precise identification of some of these precious stones is uncertain. They were mounted in gold filigree settings. 14There were twelve stones, one for each of the names of the sons of Israel, each engraved like a seal with the name of one of the twelve tribes.
15For the breastpiece they made braided chains of pure gold, like a rope. 16They made two gold filigree settings and two gold rings, and fastened the rings to two of the corners of the breastpiece. 17They fastened the two gold chains to the rings at the corners of the breastpiece, 18and the other ends of the chains to the two settings, attaching them to the shoulder pieces of the ephod at the front. 19They made two gold rings and attached them to the other two corners of the breastpiece on the inside edge next to the ephod. 20Then they made two more gold rings and attached them to the bottom of the shoulder pieces on the front of the ephod, close to the seam just above the waistband of the ephod. 21They tied the rings of the breastpiece to the rings of the ephod with blue cord, connecting it to the waistband so that the breastpiece would not swing out from the ephod – as the Lord commanded Moses.
Other priestly garments
22They made the robe of the ephod entirely of blue cloth – the work of a weaver – 23with an opening in the centre of the robe like the opening of a collar,#39:23 The meaning of the Hebrew for this word is uncertain. and a band around this opening, so that it would not tear. 24They made pomegranates of blue, purple and scarlet yarn and finely twisted linen round the hem of the robe. 25And they made bells of pure gold and attached them around the hem between the pomegranates. 26The bells and pomegranates alternated round the hem of the robe to be worn for ministering, as the Lord commanded Moses.
27For Aaron and his sons, they made tunics of fine linen – the work of a weaver – 28and the turban of fine linen, the linen caps and the undergarments of finely twisted linen. 29The sash was made of finely twisted linen and blue, purple and scarlet yarn – the work of an embroiderer – as the Lord commanded Moses.
30They made the plate, the sacred emblem, out of pure gold and engraved on it, like an inscription on a seal:
Holy to the Lord.
31Then they fastened a blue cord to it to attach it to the turban, as the Lord commanded Moses.
Moses inspects the tabernacle
32So all the work on the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, was completed. The Israelites did everything just as the Lord commanded Moses. 33Then they brought the tabernacle to Moses:
the tent and all its furnishings, its clasps, frames, crossbars, posts and bases;
34the covering of ram skins dyed red and the covering of another durable leather#39:34 Possibly the hides of large aquatic mammals and the shielding curtain;
35the ark of the covenant law with its poles and the atonement cover;
36the table with all its articles and the bread of the Presence;
37the pure gold lampstand with its row of lamps and all its accessories, and the olive oil for the light;
38the gold altar, the anointing oil, the fragrant incense, and the curtain for the entrance to the tent;
39the bronze altar with its bronze grating, its poles and all its utensils;
the basin with its stand;
40the curtains of the courtyard with its posts and bases, and the curtain for the entrance to the courtyard;
the ropes and tent pegs for the courtyard;
all the furnishings for the tabernacle, the tent of meeting;
41and the woven garments worn for ministering in the sanctuary, both the sacred garments for Aaron the priest and the garments for his sons when serving as priests.
42The Israelites had done all the work just as the Lord had commanded Moses. 43Moses inspected the work and saw that they had done it just as the Lord had commanded. So Moses blessed them.
