Exodus 3
3
CHAPTER 3
1Forsooth Moses kept the sheep of Jethro, his wife’s father, priest of Midian; and when he had driven the flock to the inner parts of the desert, he came to Horeb, the hill of God.
2Forsooth the Lord appeared to him there in a flame of fire from the middle of a bush, and Moses saw that the bush burnt, and it was not burnt up.
3Therefore Moses said, I shall go and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.
4Soothly the Lord saw that Moses went to see, and he called him from the midst of the bush, and said, Moses! Moses! Which answered, I am present.
5And the Lord said, Nigh thou not hither, but unbind thou the shoes of thy feet, for the place in which thou standest is holy land.
6And the Lord said, I am God of thy fathers, God of Abraham, God of Isaac, and God of Jacob. Moses hid his face, for he durst not look against God.
7To whom the Lord said, I saw the affliction of my people in Egypt, and I heard the cry thereof, for the hardness of them that be sovereigns of the works. And I knew the sorrow of the people,
8and I came down to deliver them from the hands of Egyptians, and lead out of that land into a good land and broad, into a land that floweth with milk and honey, to the places of Canaanites, and of Hittites, of Amorites, and of Perizzites, and of Hivites, and of Jebusites.
9Therefore the cry of the sons of Israel came to me, and I saw the torment of them, by which they be oppressed of the Egyptians.
10But come thou, I shall send thee to Pharaoh, that thou lead out my people, the sons of Israel, from Egypt.
11And Moses said to him, Who am I, that I go to Pharaoh, and lead out the sons of Israel from Egypt?
12And the Lord said to Moses, I shall be with thee, and thou shalt have this sign, that I have sent thee; when thou hast led out my people from Egypt, thou shalt offer to God on this hill.
13Moses said to God, Lo! I shall go to the sons of Israel, and I shall say to them, [The] God of your fathers sent me to you; if they shall say to me, What is his name, what shall I say to them?
14The Lord said to Moses, I am that I am. The Lord said, Thus thou shalt say to the sons of Israel, He that is, sent me to you.
15And again God said to Moses, Thou shalt say these things to the sons of Israel, The Lord God of your fathers, God of Abraham, and God of Isaac, and God of Jacob, sent me to you; this name is to me without end, and this is my memorial in generation and into generation.
16Go thou, gather thou the elder men, that is, judges, of Israel, and thou shalt say to them, The Lord God of your fathers appeared to me, God of Abraham, and God of Isaac, and God of Jacob, and he said, I visiting have visited you, and I have seen all things that befelled to you in Egypt;
17and I said, that I should lead out you from the affliction of Egypt, into the land of Canaanites, and of Hittites, and of Amorites, and of Perizzites, and of Hivites, and of Jebusites, to the land flowing with milk and honey.
18And they shall hear thy voice; and thou shalt enter, and the elder men of Israel, to the king of Egypt, and thou shalt say to him, The Lord God of Hebrews hath called us; we shall go the way of three days into wilderness, that we offer to our Lord God.
19But I know, that the king of Egypt shall not deliver you that ye go, but by strong hand;
20for I shall hold forth mine hand, and I shall smite Egypt in all my marvels which I shall do in the midst of them; after these things he shall deliver you.
21And I shall give grace to this people before [the] Egyptians, and when ye shall go out, ye shall not go out void;
22but a woman shall ask of her neighbouress, and of her that she is harboured with, silveren vessels, and golden, and clothes, and ye shall put those [or them] upon your sons and daughters, and ye shall make naked Egypt.

Exodus 3

God Speaks to Moses
1One day, Moses was taking care of the sheep and goats of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian, and Moses decided to lead them across the desert to Sinai,#3.1 Sinai: The Hebrew text has “Horeb,” another name for Sinai. the holy mountain. 2#Ac 7.30-34. There an angel of the Lord appeared to him from a burning bush. Moses saw that the bush was on fire, but it was not burning up. 3“This is strange!” he said to himself. “I'll go over and see why the bush isn't burning up.”
4When the Lord saw Moses coming near, he called him by name from the bush, and Moses answered, “Here I am.”
5God replied, “Don't come any closer. Take off your sandals—the ground where you are standing is holy. 6I am the God who was worshiped by your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”
Moses was afraid to look at God, and so he hid his face.
7The Lord said:
I have seen how my people are suffering as slaves in Egypt, and I have heard them beg for my help because of the way they are being mistreated. I feel sorry for them, 8and I have come down to rescue them from the Egyptians.
I will bring my people out of Egypt into a country where there is a lot of good land, rich with milk and honey. I will give them the land where the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites now live. 9My people have begged for my help, and I have seen how cruel the Egyptians are to them. 10Now go to the king! I am sending you to lead my people out of his country.
11But Moses said, “Who am I to go to the king and lead your people out of Egypt?”
12God replied, “I will be with you. And you will know that I am the one who sent you, when you worship me on this mountain after you have led my people out of Egypt.”#3.12 I will be with you … out of Egypt: Or “I will be with you. This bush is a sign that I am the one sending you, and it is a promise that you will worship me on this mountain after you have led my people out of Egypt.”

Ex 6.2,3. Moses answered, “I will tell the people of Israel that the God their ancestors worshiped has sent me to them. But what should I say, if they ask me your name?”

Rev 1.4,8. God said to Moses:
I am the eternal God. So tell them that the Lord,#3.14,15 Lord: The Hebrew text has “Yahweh,” which is usually translated “Lord” in the CEV. Since it seems related to the word translated “I am,” it may mean “I am the one who is” or “I will be what I will be” or “I am the one who brings into being.” whose name is “I Am,” has sent you. This is my name forever, and it is the name that people must use from now on.
16Call together the leaders of Israel and tell them that the God who was worshiped by Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob has appeared to you. Tell them I have seen how terribly they are being treated in Egypt, 17and I promise to lead them out of their troubles. I will give them a land rich with milk and honey, where the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites now live.
18The leaders of Israel will listen to you. Then you must take them to the king of Egypt and say, “The Lord God of the Hebrews has appeared to us. Let us walk three days into the desert, where we can offer a sacrifice to him.” 19But I know that the king of Egypt won't let you go unless something forces him to. 20So I will use my mighty power to perform all kinds of miracles and strike down the Egyptians. Then the king will send you away.

Ex 12.35,36. #Ws 10.17. After I punish the Egyptians, they will be so afraid of you that they will give you anything you want. You are my people, and I will let you take many things with you when you leave the land of Egypt. 22Every Israelite woman will go to her Egyptian neighbors or to any Egyptian woman living with them and ask them for gold and silver jewelry and for their finest clothes. The Egyptians will give them to you, and you will put these fine things on your sons and daughters. Carry all this away when you leave Egypt.
