Exodus 24

CHAPTER 24
1Also he said to Moses, Go thou up to the Lord, thou, and Aaron, and Nadab, and Abihu, and [the] seventy elder men of Israel; and ye shall worship afar,
2and Moses alone go up to the Lord, and they shall not nigh, neither the people shall go up with him.
3Therefore Moses came, and told to the people all the words and the dooms of the Lord; and all the people answered with one voice, We shall do all the words of the Lord which he hath spoken.
4Forsooth Moses wrote all the words of the Lord; and he rose early, and builded an altar to the Lord at the roots of the hill, and he builded twelve titles, or stones, by twelve lineages of Israel.
5And he sent young men of the sons of Israel, and they offered burnt sacrifices, and peaceable sacrifices to the Lord, twelve calves/two calves.
6And so Moses took half the part of the blood, and put it into great cups; forsooth he shedded or poured the residue part on the altar.
7And he took the book of the bond of peace, and read [it], while the people heard; the which said, We shall do all things that the Lord spake, and we shall be obedient.
8Forsooth Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, This is the blood of the bond of peace, which the Lord covenanted with you on all these words.
9And Moses, and Aaron, and Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elder men of Israel went up,
10and saw [the] God of Israel; under his feet, they saw as the work of a sapphire stone, and as heaven when it is clear.
11And he sent not his hand on the lords of the sons of Israel, that had gone far away; and they saw God, and ate and drank.
12Forsooth the Lord said to Moses, Come thou up to me into the hill, and be thou there, and I shall give to thee tables of stone, and the law, and commandments, which I have written, that thou teach them.
13 [And] Moses and Joshua, his minister or servant, rose, and Moses went up into the hill of God,
14and said to the elder men, Abide ye here, till we turn again to you; ye have Aaron and Hur with you, if anything of question be made, ye shall tell [it] to them.
15And when Moses had gone up, a cloud covered the hill,
16and the glory of the Lord dwelled upon Sinai, and covered it with a cloud six days; forsooth in the seventh day, the Lord called him from the midst of the cloud;
17forsooth the likeness of the glory of the Lord was as fire burning on the top of the hill in the sight of the sons of Israel.
18And Moses entered into the midst of the cloud, and went up into the hill, and he was there forty days and forty nights.

Exodus 24

The People Agree To Obey God
1The Lord said to Moses, “Come up to me on this mountain. Bring along Aaron, as well as his two sons Nadab and Abihu, and 70 of Israel's leaders. They must worship me at a distance, 2but you are to come near. Don't let anyone else come up.”
3Moses gave the Lord's instructions to the people, and they all promised, “We will do everything the Lord has commanded!” 4Then Moses wrote down what the Lord had said.
The next morning Moses got up early. He built an altar at the foot of the mountain and set up a large stone for each of the twelve tribes of Israel. 5He also sent some young men to burn offerings and to sacrifice bulls as special offerings#24.5 special offerings: Often translated “peace offerings,” which were to make peace between God and his people, who ate certain parts of the sacrificed animal. to the Lord. 6Moses put half of the blood from the animals into bowls and sprinkled the rest on the altar. 7Then he read aloud the Lord's commands and promises, and the people shouted, “We will obey the Lord and do everything he has commanded!”

He 9.19,20. Moses took the blood from the bowls and sprinkled it on the people. Next, he told them, “With this blood the Lord makes his agreement with you.”
9Moses and Aaron, together with Nadab and Abihu and the 70 leaders, went up the mountain 10and saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something that looked like a pavement made out of sapphire,#24.10 sapphire: A precious stone, blue in color. and it was as bright as the sky.
11Even though these leaders of Israel saw God, he did not punish them. So they ate and drank.
Moses on Mount Sinai
12The Lord said to Moses, “Come up on the mountain and stay here for a while. I will give you the two flat stones on which I have written the laws that my people must obey.” 13Moses and Joshua his assistant got ready, then Moses started up the mountain to meet with God.
14Moses had told the leaders, “Wait here until we come back. Aaron and Hur will be with you, and they can settle any arguments while we are away.”
15When Moses went up on Mount Sinai, a cloud covered it, 16and the bright glory of the Lord came down and stayed there. The cloud covered the mountain for six days, and on the seventh day the Lord told Moses to come into the cloud. 17-18#Dt 9.9-11. Moses did so and stayed there 40 days and nights. To the people, the Lord's glory looked like a blazing fire on top of the mountain.
