In Gileadovci zasedejo jordanske brodove proti Efraimskim; in ko je bežečih Efraimskih kdo rekel: Daj, da grem na ono stran, mu vele možje iz Gileada: Si li Efraimec? in ako je rekel: Nisem, mu velé: Reci: Šibolet! on pa je rekel: Sibolet, ker ni pazil na pravo izreko. Tedaj ga zgrabijo in umorijo ob jordanskih brodovih. In padlo jih je tisti čas iz Efraima dvainštirideset tisoč.
