3Then Satan entered into Judas called Iscariot, who was of the number of the twelve; 4he went away and conferred with the chief priests and officers how he might betray him to them. 5#Mt 26.14-16; Mk 14.10-11; Jn 13.2. Mt 26.17-19; Mk 14.12-16. #Ex 12.18-20; Deut 16.5-8. Then came the day of Unleavened Bread, on which the passover lamb had to be sacrificed. 8#Acts 3.1; Lk 19.29. So Jesus#22.8 Greek he sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the passover for us, that we may eat it.” 9They said to him, “Where will you have us prepare it?” 10He said to them, “Behold, when you have entered the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you; follow him into the house which he enters, 11and tell the householder, ‘The Teacher says to you, Where is the guest room, where I am to eat the passover with my disciples?’ 12And he will show you a large upper room furnished; there make ready.” 13And they went, and found it as he had told them; and they prepared the passover.

Mt 26.20; Mk 14.17; Jn 13.17. And when the hour came, he sat at table, and the apostles with him. 15#Lk 12.49-50. And he said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer; 16#Lk 14.15. for I tell you I shall not eat it#22.16 Other ancient authorities read never eat it again until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” 17#Mt 26.27; Mk 14.23; 1 Cor 10.16. And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he said, “Take this, and divide it among yourselves; 18#Mt 26.29; Mk 14.25. for I tell you that from now on I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” 19#Mt 26.26; Mk 14.22; 1 Cor 10.16; 11.23-26; Lk 9.16. And he took bread, and when he had given thanks he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 20And likewise the cup after supper, saying, “This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.#22.20 Other authorities omit, in whole or in part, verses 19b-20 (which is given … in my blood ) 21#Mt 26.21-24; Mk 14.18-21; Ps 41.9; Jn 13.21-30. But behold the hand of him who betrays me is with me on the table. 22For the Son of man goes as it has been determined; but woe to that man by whom he is betrayed!” 23And they began to question one another, which of them it was that would do this.

Lk 9.46; Mk 9.34. A dispute also arose among them, which of them was to be regarded as the greatest. 25#Mt 20.25-28; Mk 10.42-45; Jn 13.3-16. And he said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and those in authority over them are called benefactors. 26#Lk 9.48. But not so with you; rather let the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves. 27For which is the greater, one who sits at table, or one who serves? Is it not the one who sits at table? But I am among you as one who serves.

Mt 19.28. #Lk 4.13; Heb 2.18; 4.15. “You are those who have continued with me in my trials; 29#Mk 14.24; Heb 9.20. and I assign to you, as my Father assigned to me, a kingdom, 30#Mk 10.37; Rev 3.21; 20.4. that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Job 1.6-12; Amos 9.9. “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you,#22.31 The Greek word for you here is plural; in verse 32 it is singular that he might sift you#22.31 The Greek word for you here is plural; in verse 32 it is singular like wheat, 32#Jn 17.15; 21.15-17. but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail; and when you have turned again, strengthen your brethren.” 33#Mt 26.33-35; Mk 14.29-31; Jn 13.37-38. And he said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.” 34He said, “I tell you, Peter, the cock will not crow this day, until you three times deny that you know me.”

Lk 10.4; Mt 10.9. And he said to them, “When I sent you out with no purse or bag or sandals, did you lack anything?” They said, “Nothing.” 36#Lk 22.49-50. He said to them, “But now, let him who has a purse take it, and likewise a bag. And let him who has no sword sell his mantle and buy one. 37#Is 53.12. For I tell you that this scripture must be fulfilled in me, ‘And he was reckoned with transgressors’; for what is written about me has its fulfilment.” 38And they said, “Look, Lord, here are two swords.” And he said to them, “It is enough.”
39 #
Mt 26.30; Mk 14.26; Jn 18.1. And he came out, and went, as was his custom, to the Mount of Olives; and the disciples followed him. 40#Mt 26.36-46; Mk 14.32-42; Heb 5.7-8. #Lk 11.4. And when he came to the place he said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.” 41And he withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and knelt down and prayed, 42#Mk 10.38; Jn 18.11; 5.30. “Father, if thou art willing, remove this cup from me; nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.” 43#22.43 Other ancient authorities add verse 43: 43 And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. 44#22.44 Other ancient authorities add verse 44: 44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down upon the ground 45And when he rose from prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping for sorrow, 46and he said to them, “Why do you sleep? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation.”

Mt 26.47-56; Mk 14.43-49; Jn 18.3-11. While he was still speaking, there came a crowd, and the man called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He drew near to Jesus to kiss him; 48but Jesus said to him, “Judas, would you betray the Son of man with a kiss?” 49#Lk 22.38. And when those who were about him saw what would follow, they said, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?” 50And one of them struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his right ear. 51But Jesus said, “No more of this!” And he touched his ear and healed him. 52Then Jesus said to the chief priests and officers of the temple and elders, who had come out against him, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs? 53#Lk 19.47. When I was with you day after day in the temple, you did not lay hands on me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.”

Mt 26.57-58; Mk 14.53-54; Jn 18.12-16. Then they seized him and led him away, bringing him into the high priest's house. Peter followed at a distance; 55and when they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat among them. 56#Mt 26.69-75; Mk 14.66-72; Jn 18.16-18,25-27. Then a maid, seeing him as he sat in the light and gazing at him, said, “This man also was with him.” 57But he denied it, saying, “Woman, I do not know him.” 58And a little later some one else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not.” 59And after an interval of about an hour still another insisted, saying, “Certainly this man also was with him; for he is a Galilean.” 60But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are saying.” And immediately, while he was still speaking, the cock crowed. 61#Lk 7.13; 22.34. And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said to him, “Before the cock crows today, you will deny me three times.” 62And he went out and wept bitterly.
63 #
Mt 26.67-68; Mk 14.65; Jn 18.22-24. Now the men who were holding Jesus mocked him and beat him; 64they also blindfolded him and asked him, “Prophesy! Who is it that struck you?” 65And they spoke many other words against him, reviling him.
66 #
Mt 26.57; Mk 14.53; Lk 22.54. When day came, the assembly of the elders of the people gathered together, both chief priests and scribes; and they led him away to their council, and they said, 67#Mt 26.63-66; Mk 14.61-64; Jn 18.19-21. “If you are the Christ, tell us.” But he said to them, “If I tell you, you will not believe; 68and if I ask you, you will not answer. 69But from now on the Son of man shall be seated at the right hand of the power of God.” 70#Lk 23.3; Mt 27.11. And they all said, “Are you the Son of God, then?” And he said to them, “You say that I am.” 71And they said, “What further testimony do we need? We have heard it ourselves from his own lips.”

St Luke 22
22
1NOW the feast of unleavened bread, which is called the pasch, was at hand.
2And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might put Jesus to death: but they feared the people.
3And Satan entered into Judas, who was surnamed Iscariot, one of the twelve.
4And he went, and discoursed with the chief priests and the magistrates, how he might betray him to them.
5And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.
6And he promised. And he sought opportunity to betray him in the absence of the multitude.
7And the day of the unleavened bread came, on which it was necessary that the pasch should be killed.
8And he sent Peter and John, saying: Go, and prepare for us the pasch, that we may eat.
9But they said: Where wilt thou that we prepare?
10And he said to them: Behold, as you go into the city, there shall meet you a man carrying a pitcher of water: follow him into the house where he entereth in.
11And you shall say to the goodman of the house: The master saith to thee, Where is the guest chamber, where I may eat the pasch with my disciples?
12And he will shew you a large dining room, furnished; and there prepare.
13And they going, found as he had said to them, and made ready the pasch.
14And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.
15And he said to them: With desire I have desired to eat this pasch with you, before I suffer.
16For I say to you, that from this time I will not eat it, till it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
17And having taken the chalice, he gave thanks, and said: Take, and divide it among you:
18For I say to you, that I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, till the kingdom of God come.
19And taking bread, he gave thanks, and brake; and gave to them, saying: This is my body, which is given for you. Do this for a commemoration of me.
20In like manner the chalice also, after he had supped, saying: This is the chalice, the new testament in my blood, which shall be shed for you.
21But yet behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.
22And the Son of man indeed goeth, according to that which is determined: but yet, woe to that man by whom he shall be betrayed.
23And they began to inquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.
24And there was also a strife amongst them, which of them should seem to be the greater.
25And he said to them: The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and they that have power over them, are called beneficent.
26But you not so: but he that is the greater among you, let him become as the younger; and he that is the leader, as he that serveth.
27For which is greater, he that sitteth at table, or he that serveth? Is it not he that sitteth at table? But I am in the midst of you, as he that serveth:
28And you are they who have continued with me in my temptations:
29And I dispose to you, as my Father hath disposed to me, a kingdom;
30That you may eat and drink at my table, in my kingdom: and may sit upon thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
31And the Lord said: Simon, Simon, behold Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
32But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and thou, being once converted, confirm thy brethren.
33Who said to him: Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.
34And he said: I say to thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, till thou thrice deniest that thou knowest me. And he said to them:
35When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, did you want anything?
36But they said: Nothing. Then said he unto them: But now he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise a scrip; and he that hath not, let him sell his coat, and buy a sword.
37For I say to you, that this that is written must yet be fulfilled in me: And with the wicked was he reckoned. For the things concerning me have an end.
38But they said: Lord, behold here are two swords. And he said to them, It is enough.
39And going out, he went, according to his custom, to the mount of Olives. And his disciples also followed him.
40And when he was come to the place, he said to them: Pray, lest ye enter into temptation.
41And he was withdrawn away from them a stone's cast; and kneeling down, he prayed,
42Saying: Father, if thou wilt, remove this chalice from me: but yet not my will, but thine be done.
43And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. And being in an agony, he prayed the longer.
44And his sweat became as drops of blood, trickling down upon the ground.
45And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow.
46And he said to them: Why sleep you? arise, pray, lest you enter into temptation.
47As he was yet speaking, behold a multitude; and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near to Jesus, for to kiss him.
48And Jesus said to him: Judas, dost thou betray the Son of man with a kiss?
49And they that were about him, seeing what would follow, said to him: Lord, shall we strike with the sword?
50And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.
51But Jesus answering, said: Suffer ye thus far. And when he had touched his ear, he healed him.
52And Jesus said to the chief priests, and magistrates of the temple, and the ancients, that were come unto him: Are ye come out, as it were against a thief, with swords and clubs?
53When I was daily with you in the temple, you did not stretch forth your hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.
54And apprehending him, they led him to the high priest's house. But Peter followed afar off.
55And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were sitting about it, Peter was in the midst of them.
56Whom when a certain servant maid had seen sitting at the light, and had earnestly beheld him, she said: This man also was with him.
57But he denied him, saying: Woman, I know him not.
58And after a little while, another seeing him, said: Thou also art one of them. But Peter said: O man, I am not.
59And after the space, as it were of one hour, another certain man affirmed, saying: Of a truth, this man was also with him; for he is also a Galilean.
60And Peter said: Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, as he was yet speaking, the cock crew.
61And the Lord turning looked on Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, as he had said: Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
62And Peter going out, wept bitterly.
63And the men that held him, mocked him, and struck him.
64And they blindfolded him, and smote his face. And they asked him, saying: Prophesy, who is it that struck thee?
65And blaspheming, many other things they said against him.
66And as soon as it was day, the ancients of the people, and the chief priests and scribes, cane together; and they brought him into their council, saying: If thou be the Christ, tell us.
67And he saith to them: If I shall tell you, you will not believe me.
68And if I shall also ask you, you will not answer me, nor let me go.
69But hereafter the Son of man shall be sitting on the right hand of the power of God.
70Then said they all: Art thou then the Son of God? Who said: You say that I am.
71And they said: What need we any further testimony? for we ourselves have heard it from his own mouth.
