2 Peter 1:16-21

Shortly after writing his first letter, Peter hears word of false teaching spreading amongst the churches in Asia Minor. The letter focuses on combating false teachers and encouraging believers to grow in spiritual maturity by studying the Scriptures. Second Peter reminds us to be diligent in confirming our calling by cultivating Christ-likeness in all aspects of our lives.

Many Christians disagree on some points of doctrine but agree on the Person and work of Jesus Christ. Those who teach that His work is no longer relevant or effective are false teachers. This plan studies the first half of the second chapter of Peter’s second epistle, where he warns the Church against false teachers by showing us their characteristics, consequences, and conduct.

In his second letter, Peter challenged the church to pursue knowledge of God’s Word. If you know the truth, you’ll be able to spot errors. He urged them to simultaneously “be on guard” and “grow in grace.” Peter couldn’t stress enough how important it is for believers to grow in our understanding of God and His Word.
