Job 25
25
Bildad Speaks: How Can a Mortal Be Righteous Before God?
1Then Bildad the Shuhite answered:
2“Dominion and fear are with God;#25.2 Heb him
he makes peace in his high heaven.
3Is there any number to his armies?
Upon whom does his light not arise?
4How then can a mortal be righteous before God?
How can one born of woman be pure?
5If even the moon is not bright
and the stars are not pure in his sight,
6how much less a mortal, who is a maggot,
and a human being, who is a worm!”

Bildad Says Man Is Inferior
1Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said,
2“Dominion and awe belong to God;
He establishes peace and order in His high places.
3“Is there any number to His [vast celestial] armies?
And upon whom does His light not rise?
4“How then can man be justified and righteous with God?
Or how can he who is born of a woman be pure and clean? [Ps 130:3; 143:2]
5“Behold, even the moon has no brightness [compared to God’s majesty and glory]
And the stars are not pure in His sight,
6How much less man, that maggot,
And the son of man, that worm!”
