Revelation 13
13
1And the dragon stood on the sea shore. Then I saw a beast rising out of the sea. He had ten horns and seven heads, with ten small crowns on his horns, and had blasphemous names on his heads. 2The beast I saw looked like a leopard, but his feet looked like those of a bear, and his mouth looked like that of a lion. The dragon gave the beast his power, his throne, and great authority. 3One of his heads seemed to have suffered a death-blow, but this fatal wound had been healed. The whole world was filled with wonder at the beast, 4and they worshiped the dragon because he had given his authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, asking “Who is like the beast? Who could defeat him?” 5He was given the ability#13:5. Literally, “given a mouth.” to make great boasts and speak blasphemies, and he was also given the authority to do this for forty-two months. 6As soon as he opened his mouth he spoke blasphemies against God, insulting his character,#13:6. Literally, “name.” his sanctuary,#13:6. Sanctuary: or “dwelling place.” and those who live in heaven. 7The beast was given power to attack believers and defeat them, and he was also given authority over every people, tribe, language, and nation. 8Everybody living on earth will worship him, those whose names had not been written in the book of life—the book of life that belongs to the Lamb slain from the beginning of the world. 9If you have ears, listen! 10Anyone who has to go into captivity will go into captivity; anyone who has to die by the sword will die by the sword.#13:10. There are two textual variants here. The text could also say that those who kill with the sword will themselves be killed with the sword, paralleling Matthew 26:52. However, in view of the next verse that encourages the believers to endure persecution, rather than expecting retribution, the text as translated is the one preferred here. See Jeremiah 15:2. This demonstrates the patient endurance and confidence in God of the believers.
11Then I saw another beast, rising up from the earth. He had two horns like a lamb, but he spoke like a dragon. 12He imposed the same authority as the first beast on his behalf, and made the earth and those who live there worship the first beast, whose fatal wound had been healed. 13He performed great miracles, even bringing fire down from heaven to earth while people watched. 14He deceived those who live on the earth by the miracles he performed on behalf of the beast, ordering the people that they should make an image for the beast who had received the fatal sword wound but came back to life.
15He was permitted to breathe life into the image of the beast so that it could speak, ordering anyone who did not worship it put to death. 16He made everyone, whether weak or powerful, rich or poor, free or slave, receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads. 17Nobody was permitted to buy or sell except those who had the mark, which was the name of the beast or the number of his name.
18Wisdom is needed here. Whoever has understanding should calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. His number is 666.

Ḥazon (Revelation) 13
13
1And I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast coming up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads names of blasphemy.
2And the beast I saw was like a leopard, and his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. And the dragon gave him his power, and his throne, and great authority.
3And I saw one of his heads, as having been slain to death, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the earth marvelled after the beast.
4And they worshipped the dragon who gave authority to the beast. And they worshipped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to fight with him?”
5And he was given a mouth speaking great matters and blasphemies, and he was given authority to do so forty-two months.
6And he opened his mouth in blasphemies against Elohim, to blaspheme His Name, and His Tent, and those dwelling in the heaven.
7And it was given to him to fight with the set-apart ones and to overcome them. And authority was given to him over every tribe and tongue and nation.
8And all those dwelling on the earth, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the slain Lamb, from the foundation of the world shall worship him.
9If anyone has an ear, let him hear.
10He who brings into captivity shall go into captivity, he who kills with the sword has to be killed with the sword.#Jer. 15:2; Jer. 43:11#See also Gen. 9:6. Compare Rev. 13 with Dan. 7. Here is the endurance and the belief of the set-apart ones.
11And I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon.
12And he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
13And he does great signs, so that he even makes fire come down from the heaven on the earth before men.
14And he leads astray those dwelling on the earth because of those signs which he was given to do before the beast, saying to those dwelling on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by the sword, yet lived.
15And there was given to him to give spirit to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause to be killed as many as would not worship the image of the beast.
16And he causes all, both small and great, and rich and poor, and free and slave, to be given a mark upon their right hand or upon their foreheads,
17and that no one should be able to buy or sell except he that has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18Here is the wisdom! He who has understanding, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man, and his number is six hundred and sixty six.#Some ancient manuscripts have 616 instead of 666.
