Psalms 64
64
For the music director. A psalm of David.
1God, please listen to my complaint.#64:1. Or “problem.” Protect me because my enemies scare me.
2Shelter me from the plots of the wicked, from this evil mob.
3What they say cuts like swords; they fire off poisonous words like arrows.
4They shoot from their hiding places at innocent people—doing this without warning, not afraid of being caught.
5They encourage one another to do evil, planning how to secretly trap people, telling themselves, “Nobody will notice.”
6They plot wicked things. “What a great plan we've created!” they say. There are no limits to the depths to which human minds and thoughts can sink.
7But God will shoot them with arrows; all of a sudden they will be wounded.
8What they themselves say will trip them up; people who see them will mock them, shaking their heads at them.
9Then everyone will be frightened. They will say that this is the work of God, and they will think about what he has done.#64:9. Or “They will announce God's works and understand his labor.”
10Those who are right with the Lord will be happy in him, they will go to him for protection. Those who live right will praise him.

Hide Me from the Wicked
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.
1Hear my voice, O God, in my #Ps. 55:2complaint;
preserve my life from dread of the enemy.
2Hide me from #[Ps. 55:14]the secret plots of the wicked,
from the throng of evildoers,
3who #See Ps. 57:4 whet their tongues like swords,
who #See Ps. 11:2aim bitter words like arrows,
4shooting from #[Ps. 10:8] ambush at the blameless,
shooting at him suddenly and #Ps. 55:19without fear.
5They #Jer. 23:14; Ezek. 13:22 hold fast to their evil purpose;
they talk of #See Ps. 140:5 laying snares secretly,
thinking, #See Job 22:13“Who can see them?”
6They search out injustice,
saying, “We have accomplished a diligent search.”
For #Ps. 49:11the inward mind and heart of a man are deep.

Ps. 7:12, 13; [Ps. 58:7] But God shoots his arrow at them;
they are wounded suddenly.
8They are brought to ruin, with their own #See Prov. 12:13; 18:7 tongues turned against them;
all who #See Ps. 40:3 see them will #Jer. 18:16; 48:27; See Ps. 22:7wag their heads.
9Then all mankind #[See ver. 8 above] fears;
they #Jer. 50:28; 51:10tell what God has brought about
and ponder what he has done.
10Let #See Ps. 32:11; Job 22:19 the righteous one rejoice in the Lord
and #See Ps. 11:1 take refuge in him!
Let all #See Ps. 7:10the upright in heart exult!
