Psalms 143
143
A psalm of David.
1Lord, please hear my prayer. Because you are faithful, please listen to my appeal for mercy. Answer me because you do what is right!
2Please don't place me, your servant, on trial, because nobody is innocent in your sight.
3The enemy has chased me down. He crushes me to the ground. He makes me live in darkness like those who died a long time ago.
4I sense myself fading away inside; I am overwhelmed by a sense of desolation.
5I think of days long ago, and as I meditate I talk to myself about all you have done, I reflect on what you have accomplished.
6I stretch out my hands to you, thirsting for you like dried-out land. Selah.
7Please answer me quickly, Lord! I'm dying! Don't turn away otherwise I'll be just like those who are going down into the grave.
8Tell me every morning about your trustworthy love, because I put my confidence in you. Show me the way I should go, because I dedicate myself to you.
9Save me from those who hate me, Lord—I run to you for protection.
10Teach me your will for you are my God. May your spirit of goodness lead me and make my way smooth.
11Because of the kind of person you are, let me go on living. Because you always do what's right, get me out of the trouble I'm in.
12In your trustworthy love, get rid of those who hate me, destroy all my enemies, for I am your servant.

A Prayer Not to Be Killed
A psalm of David.
1Lord, hear my prayer;
listen to my cry for mercy.
Answer me
because you are loyal and good.
2Don’t judge me, your servant,
because no one alive is right before you.
3My enemies are chasing me;
they crushed me to the ground.
They made me live in darkness
like those long dead.
4I am afraid;
my courage is gone.
5I remember what happened long ago;
I consider everything you have done.
I think about all you have made.
6I lift my hands to you in prayer.
As a dry land needs rain, I thirst for you.Selah
7Lord, answer me quickly,
because I am getting weak.
Don’t turn away from me,
or I will be like those who are dead.
8Tell me in the morning about your love,
because I trust you.
Show me what I should do,
because my prayers go up to you.
9Lord, save me from my enemies;
I hide in you.
10Teach me to do what you want,
because you are my God.
Let your good Spirit
lead me on level ground.
11Lord, let me live
so people will praise you.
In your goodness
save me from my troubles.
12In your love defeat my enemies.
Destroy all those who trouble me,
because I am your servant.
