Job 42
42
1Then Job answered the Lord. 2“I know you can do anything. No one can prevent you doing what you want. 3You asked,#42:3. Implied. Job in this verse and the next is referring back to what God previously said. ‘Who is this who questions my wisdom by talking so ignorantly?’ I was speaking about things I didn't understand—things too wonderful for me to know. 4You told me,#42:4. Implied. ‘Listen to me, I am going to speak. I am going to question you, and you must answer me.’ 5Before, I had only heard about you, but now I've seen you for myself. 6That is why I'm sorry for what I said,#42:6. Or “reject,” “retract.” and I repent in dust and ashes.”
7After the Lord had finished speaking to Job he said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “I am angry with you and your two friends because you have not told the truth about me,#42:7. Or “said of me what is right.” as my servant Job did. 8So take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job, and you shall offer a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray on your behalf and I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to your foolishness, because you have not told the truth about me, as my servant Job did.” 9So Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite did what the Lord commanded them, and the Lord accepted Job's prayer.
10The Lord restored Job's prosperity when he prayed for his friends, and gave him twice as much as he had before. 11Then all his brothers and sisters and friends he'd previously known came and ate with him at his home. They showed him sympathy and comforted him because of all the trouble#42:11. Literally, “evil.” the Lord had caused him. Each one of them gave him money and a gold ring. 12The Lord blessed the last part of Job's life more than the first part. Now he owned 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 teams of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys. 13Job also had seven sons and three daughters. 14Job called the first daughter Jemimah, the second Keziah, and the third Keren-Happuch. 15Nowhere in all the land were there women as beautiful as Job's daughters, and Job gave them the same inheritance as their brothers. 16Job lived 140 years after this, seeing his children, and grandchildren, in fact four generations. 17Then Job died at an old age, having lived a very full life.

Job
1Then Job replied to the Lord:
2“I know that you can do all things;
no purpose of yours can be thwarted.
3You asked, ‘Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?’
Surely I spoke of things I did not understand,
things too wonderful for me to know.
4“You said, ‘Listen now, and I will speak;
I will question you,
and you shall answer me.’
5My ears had heard of you
but now my eyes have seen you.
6Therefore I despise myself
and repent in dust and ashes.”
Epilogue
7After the Lord had said these things to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “I am angry with you and your two friends, because you have not spoken the truth about me, as my servant Job has. 8So now take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and sacrifice a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to your folly. You have not spoken the truth about me, as my servant Job has.” 9So Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite did what the Lord told them; and the Lord accepted Job’s prayer.
10After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before. 11All his brothers and sisters and everyone who had known him before came and ate with him in his house. They comforted and consoled him over all the trouble the Lord had brought on him, and each one gave him a piece of silver#42:11 Hebrew him a kesitah; a kesitah was a unit of money of unknown weight and value. and a gold ring.
12The Lord blessed the latter part of Job’s life more than the former part. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen and a thousand donkeys. 13And he also had seven sons and three daughters. 14The first daughter he named Jemimah, the second Keziah and the third Keren-Happuch. 15Nowhere in all the land were there found women as beautiful as Job’s daughters, and their father granted them an inheritance along with their brothers.
16After this, Job lived a hundred and forty years; he saw his children and their children to the fourth generation. 17And so Job died, an old man and full of years.
