Hebrews 8
8
1The main point of what we're saying is this: We have just such a high priest who is seated at the right hand of God, who sits in majesty on his throne in heaven. 2He serves in the sanctuary, the true Tabernacle that was set up by the Lord and not by human beings. 3Since it's the responsibility of every high priest to offer gifts and sacrifices, this high priest must also have something to offer.
4Now if he was here on earth, he wouldn't be a priest at all, because there are already priests to present the offerings that the law requires. 5The place they serve is a copy, a mere shadow of what is in heaven. That's what God told Moses when he was going to set up the Tabernacle: “Be careful to make everything according to the blueprint you were shown on the mountain.”#8:5. Quoting Exodus 25:40.
6But Jesus has been given a far better ministry just as he is the one who mediates a far better agreed relationship between us and God, which is based on much better promises. 7If that first agreement had been perfect, then a second wouldn't have been necessary. 8Pointing out their failings,#8:8. Making it clear that the failure of the “first covenant” was not due to a faulty agreement but that God's people did not live up to their responsibilities under the agreement. God told his people, “Pay attention, says the Lord, because the days are coming when I will make a new agreement with the people of Israel and Judah. 9This will not be like the agreement I made with their forefathers when I led them by the hand out of the land of Egypt. For they didn't keep their part of the agreed relationship, so I gave up on them, says the Lord.
10The relationship I promise to the house of Israel is this: After that time, says the Lord, I will place my laws inside them, and write them in their minds. I will be their God, and they will be my people. 11No one will need to teach their neighbor, and no one will need to teach anyone in their family, telling them, ‘You ought to know the Lord.’ For everyone will know me, from the smallest to the greatest. 12I will be merciful when they do wrong, and I will forget about their sins.”#8:12. Quoting Jeremiah 31:31-34.
13By saying, “A new agreed relationship,” he makes the first agreement out-of-date. The one that's old and worn out has almost disappeared.

A Heavenly Priesthood
1Now the main point of what is being said is this: We have this kind of high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, # Col 3:1; Heb 2:17 2a minister of the sanctuary and the true tabernacle that was set up by the Lord and not man. # Ex 33:7; Heb 9:11,24 3For every high priest is appointed to offer gifts # Eph 5:2; Heb 5:1; 9:14 and sacrifices; therefore it was necessary for this priest also to have something to offer. 4Now if He were on earth, He wouldn’t be a priest, since there are those # Other mss read priests offering the gifts prescribed by the law. 5These serve as a copy and shadow # Col 2:17; Heb 9:23; 10:1 of the heavenly things, as Moses was warned when he was about to complete the tabernacle. For God said, Be careful that you make everything according to the pattern that was shown to you on the mountain. # Ex 25:40; Heb 11:7; 12:25 # Ex 25:40 6But Jesus has now obtained a superior ministry, and to that degree He is the mediator # Jb 33:23; Is 29:1; Gl 3:19-20; 1Tm 2:5; Heb 9:15; 12:24 of a better covenant, # Heb 7:22; 9:15; 12:24; 13:20 which has been legally enacted on better promises. # Lk 22:20; 2Co 3:6,8
A Superior Covenant
7For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion for a second one. 8But finding fault with His people, # Lit with them He says: # Other mss read finding fault, He says to them
Look, the days are coming, says the Lord,
when I will make a new covenant
with the house of Israel
and with the house of Judah —
9not like the covenant
that I made with their ancestors
on the day I took them by their hands
to lead them out of the land of Egypt.
I disregarded them, says the Lord,
because they did not continue in My covenant.
10But this is the covenant
that I will make with the house of Israel
after those days, says the Lord:
I will put My laws into their minds
and write them on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be My people. # Zch 8:8; 2Co 3:3; Heb 10:16
11And each person will not teach his fellow citizen, # Other mss read neighbor
and each his brother, saying, “Know the Lord,”
because they will all know Me,
from the least to the greatest of them. # Is 54:13; Jn 6:45; 1Jn 2:27
12For I will be merciful to their wrongdoing,
and I will never again remember their sins. # Other mss add and their lawless deeds # Jr 31:31-34; Rm 11:27; Heb 10:17 # Jr 31:31-34
13By saying, a new covenant, He has declared that the first is old. And what is old and aging is about to disappear. # 2Co 5:17
