1 Corinthians 5
5
1I hear reports that sexual immorality is happening among you, immorality that even the foreigners don't practice. A man is living with his father's wife! 2You are so proud of yourselves! Shouldn't you have wept with sadness, and excluded the man who did this? 3Even though I'm not physically present there, I am there in spirit and just as if I were there I've already made my judgment of the one who has done this. 4When you meet together in the name of the Lord Jesus, I'll be there with you in spirit and with the power of our Lord Jesus. 5Hand over this man to Satan so his sinful nature may be destroyed and he himself be saved on the day of the Lord.#5:5. This is not to suggest that Satan “cooperates” in the salvation process. This “handing over to Satan” is figurative language that is meant to indicate that the one involved is allowed to experience the consequences of his sin so that he may choose to return and be saved.
6You shouldn't be proud about this. Don't you know that it only takes a little yeast to make the whole batch of dough rise?#5:6. In other words, it only takes a small amount of sin to infect the whole church. 7Get rid of this old yeast so that you can be a new batch of dough to make bread without yeast. Christ our Passover lamb has been sacrificed. 8So let us celebrate this festival#5:8. At the time of the Passover the Jews ate bread made without yeast, and threw out all the yeast from their homes. Paul is using this imagery to say that the yeast of sin needs to be removed just as the symbol of sin (yeast) was removed at the time of the sacrifice of the Passover., not with old yeast or the yeast of evil and wickedness, but with the bread made without yeast, the bread of sincerity and truth.
9In my previous letter I wrote that you should not associate with immoral people. 10I wasn't referring to the immoral people of this world, those who are greedy and cheat others, or those who worship idols, otherwise you'd have to leave this world! 11What I meant when I wrote was that you shouldn't associate with anyone who is called a Christian who is immoral or greedy or worships idols; or who is abusive or a drunkard or who cheats others. Don't even share a meal with anyone like that! 12It's not my place to judge those outside the church. But shouldn't you judge those who are inside the church? 13God judges those that are outside the church. “Expel the wicked from among you.”#5:13. This is a quotation from Deuteronomy, repeated in several places: Deuteronomy 13:5, Deuteronomy 17:7, Deuteronomy 19:19, Deuteronomy 22:24, Deuteronomy 24:7.

1 Corinthians 5
5
Throw Out the Evil Person!
1It is actually reported that there is sexual sin among you. I’m told that a man is sleeping with his father’s wife. Even people who don’t know God don’t let that kind of sin continue. 2And you are proud! Shouldn’t you be very sad instead? Shouldn’t you have thrown out of your church the man doing this? 3Even though I am not right there with you, I am with you in spirit. And because I am with you in spirit, I have already judged the man doing this. I have judged him in the name of our Lord Jesus. 4So when you come together, I will be with you in spirit. The power of our Lord Jesus will also be with you. 5When you come together like this, hand this man over to Satan. Then the power of sin in his life will be destroyed. His spirit will be saved on the day the Lord returns.
6Your bragging is not good. It is like yeast. Don’t you know that just a little yeast makes the whole batch of dough rise? 7Get rid of the old yeast. Then you can be like a new batch of dough without yeast. That is what you really are. That’s because Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been offered up for us. 8So let us keep the Feast, but not with the old bread made with yeast. The yeast I’m talking about is hatred and evil. Let us keep the Feast with bread made without yeast. Let us keep it with bread that is honesty and truth.
9I wrote a letter to you to tell you to stay away from people who commit sexual sins. 10I didn’t mean the people of this world who sin in this way. I didn’t mean those who always want more and more. I didn’t mean those who cheat or who worship statues of gods. In that case you would have to leave this world! 11But here is what I am writing to you now. You must stay away from anyone who claims to be a believer but does evil things. Stay away from anyone who commits sexual sins. Stay away from anyone who always wants more and more things. Stay away from anyone who worships statues of gods. Stay away from anyone who tells lies about others. Stay away from anyone who gets drunk or who cheats. Don’t even eat with people like these.
12Is it my business to judge those outside the church? Aren’t you supposed to judge those inside the church? 13God will judge those outside. Scripture says, “Get rid of that evil person!” (Deuteronomy 17:7; 19:19; 21:21; 22:21,24; 24:7)
