Joshua 23
23
1And it came to pass after many days, when the LORD had given rest unto Israel from all their enemies round about, and Joshua was old and well stricken in years; 2that Joshua called for all Israel, for their elders and for their heads, and for their judges and for their officers, and said unto them, I am old and well stricken in years: 3and ye have seen all that the LORD your God hath done unto all these nations because of you; for the LORD your God, he it is that hath fought for you. 4Behold, I have allotted unto you these nations that remain, to be an inheritance for your tribes, from Jordan, with all the nations that I have cut off, even unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun. 5And the LORD your God, he shall thrust them out from before you, and drive them from out of your sight; and ye shall possess their land, as the LORD your God spake unto you. 6Therefore be ye very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, that ye turn not aside therefrom to the right hand or to the left; 7that ye come not among these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, neither serve them, nor bow down yourselves unto them: 8but cleave unto the LORD your God, as ye have done unto this day. 9For the LORD hath driven out from before you great nations and strong: but as for you, no man hath stood before you unto this day. 10One man of you shall chase a thousand: for the LORD your God, he it is that fighteth for you, as he spake unto you.
11Take good heed therefore unto yourselves, that ye love the LORD your God. 12Else if ye do in any wise go back, and cleave unto the remnant of these nations, even these that remain among you, and make marriages with them, and go in unto them, and they to you: 13know for a certainty that the LORD your God will no more drive these nations from out of your sight; but they shall be a snare and a trap unto you, and a scourge in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until ye perish from off this good land which the LORD your God hath given you. 14And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth: and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spake concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, not one thing hath failed thereof. 15And it shall come to pass, that as all the good things are come upon you of which the LORD your God spake unto you, so shall the LORD bring upon you all the evil things, until he have destroyed you from off this good land which the LORD your God hath given you. 16When ye transgress the covenant of the LORD your God, which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods, and bow down yourselves to them; then shall the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and ye shall perish quickly from off the good land which he hath given unto you.

Joshua’s Farewell Address
1And it happened, after a long time,#Literally “many days” after Yahweh had given rest to Israel from all their surrounding enemies, and after Joshua was old and well-advanced in years,#Literally “he went into the days” 2Joshua summoned all Israel, their elders, heads, judges, and officials, and he said to them, “I am old and well-advanced in years,#Literally “I went into the days” 3and you have seen all that Yahweh your God has done to all these nations for your sake,#Literally “because of your presence” for Yahweh your God is fighting for you. 4Look! I have allotted to you these remaining nations as an inheritance for your tribes, from the Jordan, with all the nations that I have cut off, to the Great Sea#That is, the Mediterranean in the west.#Literally “to the setting of the sun” 5And Yahweh your God will push them back before you#Literally “from your presence” and drive them out of your sight,#Literally “from your face” and you will possess their land, just as Yahweh your God promised to you. 6Be very strong to observe carefully all that is written in the scroll of the law of Moses so as not to turn aside from it, to the right or left, 7so as not to go among these remaining nations with you; do not profess#Literally “do not mention” the name of their gods, and do not swear by them, serve them, or bow down to them.#Literally “bow yourselves down to them” 8But hold fast to Yahweh your God, just as you have done up to this day. 9Yahweh has driven out before you great and strong nations; and as for you, nobody has withstood#Literally “a man has not stood in your presence” you to this day. 10One of your men put to flight a thousand, for Yahweh your God is fighting for you, just as he promised you. 11Take utmost care for the sake of your life to love Yahweh your God, 12for if indeed you turn back and join these remaining nations among you,#Literally “with you” and you intermarry with them, marrying their women and they yours,#Literally “you go into them and they into you” 13know for certain that Yahweh your God will not continue to drive out#Literally “will not drive out again” these nations from before you; they will be for you a snare and a trap, a whip on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this good land that Yahweh your God has given to you.
14Look! I am about to die,#Literally “I am going today on the way of all the earth” and you know in all your hearts#Hebrew “heart” and souls#Hebrew “soul”; or “inner self” that not one thing failed#Literally “fell” from all the good things that Yahweh your God promised concerning you; everything has been fulfilled;#Literally “has come out” not one thing failed.#Literally “not one thing fell from it” 15But just as all the good things#Hebrew “thing” came to you that Yahweh your God promised, so will Yahweh bring to you all the bad things#Hebrew “things” until he has destroyed you from this good land that Yahweh your God has given to you. 16If you transgress the covenant of Yahweh your God, which he commanded to you, and you go and serve other gods and bow down to them, Yahweh’s anger will be kindled#Literally “Yahweh’s nose will become hot” against you, and you will perish quickly from the good land that he has given to you.”
