When I show them mercy, they bring me misery. I’m forsaken and forlorn, like a motherless child. I even prayed over them when they were sick. I was burdened and bowed low with fasting and interceded for their healing, and I didn’t stop praying. I grieved for them, heavyhearted, as though they were my dearest family members or my good friends who were sick, nearing death, needing prayer.

Though it may not feel like it at times, fasting is the path to freedom in our life with Christ. It teaches us to identify the sinful habits and broken patterns of living that contribute to our sickness, not health. Fasting liberates us to love God and others as we were made to do. Let fasting set you free to say no to lesser loves and yes to the Lord!

Reading and praying the Psalms is a humble pilgrimage. The various authors, including King David, share their innermost thoughts and struggles in their relationships with others and the One True God. They doubt. They ask questions. They marvel. They believe. Don’t we do the same? Ancient writings? Yes. But relevant for each of us today. Each day’s study includes an option to pray through that day’s Psalm with grace-filled intentionality.
