And before he had finished speaking, people arrived from Jairus’ house and pushed through the crowd to give Jairus the news: “There’s no need to trouble the master any longer—your daughter has died.” But Jesus refused to listen to what they were told and said to the Jewish official, “Don’t yield to fear. What does it mean to wait on the Lord? We wait on the Lord to answer our prayers, to act, to renew our strength, to deliver, to do what only God can do. We wait on him because he is God and we are not. As we wait on the Lord, he changes us, he strengthens us, we learn, and we grow in our faith.
Jairus was a dad with a dying daughter. He lived in the time of Jesus and like many people in the Bible, he is only mentioned once. Yet, through Jesus' brief encounter with him, there is much for us to learn.
