The Resurrection of Jesus
1After the Sabbath ended, at the first light of dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary # 28:1 This was Mary, the mother of Jacob and Joseph. See Mark 16:1; Luke 24:10. went to take a look at the tomb. 2-4Suddenly, the earth shook violently beneath their feet as the angel of the Yahweh # 28:2–4 As translated from the Aramaic. descended from heaven. Lightning flashed around him and his robe was dazzling white! The guards were stunned and terrified—lying motionless like dead men. Then the angel walked up to the tomb, rolled away the stone, and sat on top of it!
5The women were breathless and terrified, until the angel said to them, “There’s no reason to be afraid. I know you’re here looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6He isn’t here—he has risen victoriously, # 28:6 As translated from the Aramaic. just as he said! Come inside the tomb and see the place where our Lord was lying. # 28:6 As translated from the Aramaic and some Greek texts. 7Then run and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead! I give you his message: ‘I am going ahead of you to Galilee and you will see me there.’ ” # 28:7 Or ‘He is going ahead of you to Galilee and you will see him there. Behold, I have told you!’ ”
8They rushed quickly to tell his disciples, and their hearts were filled with fear, awe, and great joy at the same time.
9Along the way, Jesus suddenly appeared in front of them and said, “Rejoice!” # 28:9 Or “Be rejoicing!” They were so overwhelmed by seeing him that they bowed down and grasped his feet in adoring worship.
10Then Jesus said to them, “Throw off all your fears. Go and tell my brothers # 28:10 What an incredible truth! Believers are now his brothers and sisters. See Heb. 2:11. to go to Galilee. They will find me there.”
The Guards Report What They Witnessed
11After the women left the tomb, a few of the guards went into Jerusalem and told the chief priests everything they had seen and heard. 12So the chief priests called a meeting with all the religious leaders and came up with a plan. They bribed the guards with a large sum of money 13and told them, “Tell everyone, ‘While we were asleep, his disciples came at night and stole his body!’ 14If Pilate finds out about this, don’t worry. We’ll make sure you don’t get blamed.” 15So they took the money and did as they were told. (That is why the story of the guards is still circulated among the Jews to this day.)
The Great Commission
16Meanwhile, the eleven disciples heard the wonderful news from the women and left for Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had arranged to meet them. 17The moment they saw him, they worshiped him, but some still had lingering doubts.
18Then Jesus came close to them and said, “All authority of the universe has been given to me. # 28:18 There is a sentence found in the Aramaic that is missing in all but one Greek manuscript, which reads, “As my Father has sent me, so I send you.” 19Now wherever you go, make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. 20And teach them to faithfully follow # 28:20 The Aramaic is “keep” or “guard” (a fortress). all that I have commanded you. And never forget that I am with you every day, even to the completion of this age.” # 28:20 Or “I am with you all the appointed days” (Variorum Version).

1Now after Shabbos, at the time of Shacharis on Yom Rishon (the first day of the week), Miryam of Magdala and the other Miryam came to look at the kever.
2And hinei! a great earthquake had occurred, for a malach Adonoi (an angel of Hashem) descended from Shomayim and came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it.
3And his appearance was like lightning and his garment as white as snow.
4And the shomrim (guards) shook for fear of him and became like dead men.
5And the malach, in reply, said to the nashim, Do not be afraid, for I know that you are seeking Yehoshua, who has been hanged on HaEtz.
6He is not here. To him has come the Techiyas HaMesim, just as he said. Come, see the place where HaAdon was lying.
7And go quickly, tell his talmidim about the Techiyas HaMoshiach from HaMesim. And, hinei! He is going ahead of you into the Galil. There you will see him. Hinei! I have told you!
8And they departed quickly from the kever with fear and great simcha and ran to report everything to Moshiachʼs talmidim.
9And hinei! Moshiach met them, saying Shalom Aleichem. And they came up and took hold of his feet and fell prostrate before him.
10Then he said to them, Do not be afraid; go and take word to my Achim that they may go away to the Galil, and there they shall see me.
11Now while they were on their way, hinei! Some of the shomrim came into the city and reported to the Rashei Hakohanim all the things that had happened.
12And when they had assembled with the Zekenim and counseled together, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers,
13And said, You are to say, His talmidim came by night and stole him away while we were asleep.
14And if this should come to the Governorʼs ears, we will win him over and keep you out of trouble.
15And the ones who took the kesef did as they had been instructed and this story was widely spread among the Yehudim to this day.
16But the Achad Asar Talmidim proceeded to the Galil, to the mountain which Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach had designated.
17And when they saw him, they prostrated themselves before him, but some were doubtful.
18And he came up and spoke to them, saying, All samchut (authority) has been given to me in Shomayim and on HaAretz.
19Go, therefore, make talmidim for Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach of all the nations, giving them a tevilah in a mikveh mayim in Hashem, in the Name of HaAv, and HaBen, and HaRuach Hakodesh,
20Teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And hinei! I#28:20 Moshiach am with you always, even unto the Ketz HaOlam Hazeh.
