Israelites, hear the words of YAHWEH, for he has charges to bring against the citizens of the country! “There is no faithfulness in the land, no tenderness and love— no knowledge and understanding of God. Your crimes are these: cursing others, lying, breaking your promises, murdering, stealing, and committing adultery. You have no moral decency, and bloodshed is the order of the day. This is why the land withers away, and all who live in it waste away— the wild animals, the birds, even the fish disappear.” “But let no one accuse or blame others, for my contention is with you, the priests. So, you priests will stumble on the road to ruin in broad daylight, and the prophet will stumble with you in the dark. I will destroy Israel, who gave you birth. My people are destroyed because they do not know who I am. Since you have refused to let them know who I am, I will refuse you as my priests. Since you have ignored the teaching of your God, I will ignore your children.” YAHWEH “The more you priests increase in number, the more of your sins against me I have counted. You have exchanged me, your glorious God, for something shameful.

God used Hosea to powerfully communicate His anguish towards the nation of Israel due to their continued idol worship. Hosea’s life and ministry show both the heart-breaking cost of idolatry as well as the lengths to which God will go to redeem His sinful people back to Him. This book reminds us that despite our sinful idolatry, God is always faithful.
