A Night Prayer

1Answer me when I call,
God, who vindicates me.#4:1 Or God of my righteousness#Ps 7:8; 26:1; 35:24
You freed me from affliction;#Ps 25:17; 107:6,13
be gracious to me and hear my prayer.
2How long, exalted ones,#4:2 Lit long, sons of a man will my honor be insulted?#Ps 69:7–10,19–20
How long will you love what is worthless#Ps 12:2
and pursue a lie? Selah
3Know that the Lord has set apart
the faithful for himself;
the Lord will hear when I call to him.
4Be angry#4:4 Or Tremble and do not sin;#Eph 4:26
reflect in your heart while on your bed and be silent.#Ps 77:6; 119:55 Selah
5Offer sacrifices in righteousness#4:5 Or Offer right sacrifices#Dt 33:19; Ps 51:19
and trust in the Lord.#Ps 37:3,5; 62:8
6Many are asking, “Who can show us anything good?”
Let the light of your face shine on us, Lord.#Nm 6:25; Ps 80:3
7You have put more joy in my heart
than they have when their grain and new wine abound.#Is 9:3
8I will both lie down and sleep in peace,#Ps 3:5
for you alone, Lord, make me live in safety.#Lv 25:18; Dt 12:10; Jr 32:37; Ezk 34:25

The Safety of the Faithful
To the Chief Musician. With stringed instruments. A Psalm of David.
1Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness!
You have relieved me in my distress;
Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer.
2How long, O you sons of men,
Will you turn my glory to shame?
How long will you love worthlessness
And seek falsehood?
Selah
3But know that #(2 Tim. 2:19)the Lord has set apart for Himself him who is godly;
The Lord will hear when I call to Him.
4#(Ps. 119:11; Eph. 4:26)Be angry, and do not sin.
#Ps. 77:6Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still.

5Offer #Deut. 33:19; Ps. 51:19the sacrifices of righteousness,
And #Ps. 37:3, 5; 62:8put your trust in the Lord.
6There are many who say,
“Who will show us any good?”
#Num. 6:26; Ps. 80:3, 7, 19Lord, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us.
7You have put #Ps. 97:11, 12; Is. 9:3; Acts 14:17gladness in my heart,
More than in the season that their grain and wine increased.
8#Job 11:19; Ps. 3:5I will both lie down in peace, and sleep;
#(Lev. 25:18); Deut. 12:10For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.
