God’s Deliverance of Israel
1When Israel came out of Egypt —
the house of Jacob from a people
who spoke a foreign language#Ex 13:3; Ps 81:5 —
2Judah became his sanctuary,
Israel, his dominion.#Ex 15:17; Ps 78:68–69
3The sea looked and fled;#Ex 14:21; Ps 77:16
the Jordan turned back.#Jos 3:13–16
4The mountains skipped like rams,
the hills, like lambs.#Ex 19:18; Ps 29:6
5Why was it, sea, that you fled?
Jordan, that you turned back?#Hab 3:8
6Mountains, that you skipped like rams?
Hills, like lambs?#Hab 3:10
7Tremble, earth, at the presence of the Lord,
at the presence of the God of Jacob,#Ps 96:9
8who turned the rock into a pool,
the flint into a spring.#Ex 17:6; Nm 20:11; Dt 8:15

God's Wonders at the Exodus
1When Israel went out from Egypt,
the house of Jacob from a people of strange language,
2Judah became God's#114.2 Heb his sanctuary,
Israel his dominion.
3The sea looked and fled;
Jordan turned back.
4The mountains skipped like rams,
the hills like lambs.
5Why is it, O sea, that you flee?
O Jordan, that you turn back?
6O mountains, that you skip like rams?
O hills, like lambs?
7Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord,
at the presence of the God of Jacob,
8who turns the rock into a pool of water,
the flint into a spring of water.
