Israel’s Unfaithfulness to God
1Hallelujah!
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his faithful love endures forever.#1Ch 16:34,41; Ps 100:5
2Who can declare the Lord’s mighty acts
or proclaim all the praise due him?#Ps 145:4,12; 150:2
3How happy are those who uphold justice,
who practice righteousness at all times.#Ps 15:2
4Remember me, Lord,
when you show favor to your people.#Ps 119:132
Come to me with your salvation
5so that I may enjoy the prosperity
of your chosen ones,
rejoice in the joy of your nation,
and boast about your heritage.#Dt 32:9; Ps 105:6,43
6Both we and our ancestors have sinned;
we have done wrong and have acted wickedly.#Lv 26:40; Jr 3:25; 14:20
7Our ancestors in Egypt did not grasp
the significance of your wondrous works
or remember your many acts of faithful love;
instead, they rebelled by the sea — the Red Sea.#Ex 14:10–12; Ps 78:17
8Yet he saved them for his name’s sake,
to make his power known.#Ex 9:16; Ezk 20:9
9He rebuked the Red Sea, and it dried up;

10He saved them from the power of the adversary;
he redeemed them from the power of the enemy.#Ex 14:30; Ps 107:2
11Water covered their foes;

13They soon forgot his works

14They were seized with craving in the wilderness

16In the camp they were envious of Moses

17The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan;

18Fire blazed throughout their assembly;
flames consumed the wicked.#Nm 16:35
19At Horeb they made a calf

had not stood before him in the breach

24They despised the pleasant land

25They grumbled in their tents

26So he raised his hand against them with an oath

30But Phinehas stood up and intervened,

32They angered the Lord at the Waters of Meribah,

the blood of their sons and daughters
whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan;

39They defiled themselves by their actions

40Therefore the Lord’s anger burned against his people,

41He handed them over to the nations;

42Their enemies oppressed them,
and they were subdued under their power.#Jdg 4:3; 10:12
43He rescued them many times,
but they continued to rebel deliberately

44When he heard their cry,
he took note of their distress,#Jdg 3:3; 6:7; 10:10
45remembered his covenant with them,
and relented according to the abundance

46He caused them to be pitied

47Save us, Lord our God,
and gather us from the nations,
so that we may give thanks to your holy name
