12
1Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge,
but one who hates correction is stupid.#Pr 3:11; 5:11–13; 15:5,31–32
2One who is good obtains favor from the Lord,#Pr 8:35
but he condemns a person who schemes.#Pr 14:17; 24:8
3No one can be made secure by wickedness,
but the root of the righteous is immovable.#Ps 16:8; 21:7; Pr 10:30
4A wife of noble character#12:4 Or A wife of quality, or A wife of good character is her husband’s crown,#Pr 18:22; 19:14; 31:10
but a wife who causes shame
is like rottenness in his bones.#Pr 14:30
5The thoughts of the righteous are just,
but guidance from the wicked is deceitful.
6The words of the wicked are a deadly ambush,#Pr 1:11
but the speech of the upright rescues them.#Pr 14:2
7The wicked are overthrown and perish,#Jb 34:25
but the house of the righteous will stand.#Ps 103:17–18; Pr 10:25; Mt 7:24–27
8A man is praised for his insight,
but a twisted mind is despised.
9Better to be disregarded, yet have a servant,
than to act important but have no food.#Pr 11:24; 13:7; Rm 12:3
10The righteous cares about his animal’s health,#Dt 25:4; Pr 27:23; Jnh 4:11
but even the merciful acts of the wicked are cruel.
11The one who works his land will have plenty of food,#Pr 24:27
but whoever chases fantasies lacks sense.#Pr 28:19
12The wicked desire what evil people have caught,#12:12 Or desire a stronghold of evil
but the root of the righteous is productive.
13By rebellious speech an evil person is trapped,#Pr 10:14; 13:3; 18:7
but a righteous person escapes from trouble.#Pr 21:23; 29:6
14A person will be satisfied with good
by the fruit of his mouth,#Pr 13:2; 18:20
and the work of a person’s hands will reward him.#Pr 1:31; 28:19; Is 3:10
15A fool’s way is right in his own eyes,#Pr 16:2; 21:2
but whoever listens to counsel is wise.
16A fool’s displeasure is known at once,
but whoever ignores an insult is sensible.#Pr 11:13; 12:23; 17:9; 29:11
17Whoever speaks the truth declares what is right,
but a false witness speaks deceit.#Pr 6:19; 14:5,25
18There is one who speaks rashly,
like a piercing sword;#Ps 57:4
but the tongue of the wise brings healing.#Pr 4:22; 15:4
19Truthful lips endure forever,
but a lying tongue, only a moment.#Ps 52:4–5; Pr 19:9
20Deceit is in the hearts of those who plot evil,
but those who promote peace have joy.#Pr 14:22
21No disaster overcomes the righteous,#Ps 91:10; 1Pt 3:13
but the wicked are full of misery.
22Lying lips are detestable to the Lord,#Rv 22:15
but faithful people are his delight.#Pr 3:32; 11:20; 15:8–9,26
23A shrewd person conceals knowledge,
but a foolish heart publicizes stupidity.#Pr 11:13; 12:16; 13:16; 15:2
24The diligent hand will rule,
but laziness will lead to forced labor.#Pr 10:4; 13:4; 19:15
25Anxiety in a person’s heart weighs it down,
but a good word cheers it up.#Ps 94:19; Pr 15:13; 16:24; Mt 6:25–34
26A righteous person is careful in dealing with his neighbor,#12:26 Or person guides his neighbor
but the ways of the wicked lead them astray.#Pr 14:22
27A lazy hunter doesn’t roast his game,#Pr 19:15,24; 26:15
but to a diligent person, his wealth is precious.#Pr 10:4; 13:4
28There is life in the path of righteousness,

1Whoever loves discipline loves to learn,
but whoever hates correction is a dumb animal.
2A good person obtains favor from the Lord,
but the Lord condemns everyone who schemes.
3A person cannot stand firm on a foundation of wickedness,
and the roots of righteous people cannot be moved.
4A wife with strength of character is the crown of her husband,
but the wife who disgraces him is like bone cancer.
5The thoughts of righteous people are fair.
The advice of wicked people is treacherous.
6The words of wicked people are a deadly ambush,
but the words #12:6 Or “mouths.” of decent people rescue.
7Overthrow wicked people, and they are no more,
but the families of righteous people continue to stand.
8A person will be praised based on his insight,
but whoever has a twisted mind will be despised.
9Better to be unimportant and have a slave
than to act important and have nothing to eat.
10A righteous person cares ⌞even⌟ about the life of his animals,
but the compassion of wicked people is ⌞nothing but⌟ cruelty.
11Whoever works his land will have plenty to eat,
but the one who chases unrealistic dreams has no sense.
12A wicked person delights in setting a trap for ⌞other⌟ evil people,
but the roots of righteous people produce ⌞fruit⌟.
13An evil person is trapped by his own sinful talk,
but a righteous person escapes from trouble.
14One person enjoys good things as a result of his speaking ability.
Another is paid according to what his hands have accomplished.
15A stubborn fool considers his own way the right one,
but a person who listens to advice is wise.
16When a stubborn fool is irritated, he shows it immediately,
but a sensible person hides the insult.
17A truthful witness speaks honestly,
but a lying witness speaks deceitfully.
18Careless words stab like a sword,
but the words of wise people bring healing.
19The word of truth lasts forever,
but lies last only a moment.
20Deceit is in the heart of those who plan evil,
but joy belongs to those who advise peace.
21No ⌞lasting⌟ harm comes to a righteous person,
but wicked people have lots of trouble.
22Lips that lie are disgusting to the Lord,
but honest people are his delight.
23A sensible person ⌞discreetly⌟ hides knowledge,
but foolish minds preach stupidity.
24Hard-working hands gain control,
but lazy hands do slave labor.
25A person’s anxiety will weigh him down,
but an encouraging word makes him joyful.
26A righteous person looks out for his neighbor,
but the path of wicked people leads others astray.
27A lazy hunter does not catch his prey,
but a hard-working person becomes wealthy.
28Everlasting life is on the way of righteousness.
Eternal death is not along its path.
