Leviticus 25:4

For 490 years, Israel skipped God's commanded rest years. The consequences accumulated—all 70 of them. The result: 70 years of exile while their land finally rested. For millennia, God’s people have been carrying out a weekly Bible study plan. Every year, they read through the Torah from Genesis to Deuteronomy. In synagogue each week, they read and study a Bible passage—the weekly parshah. This plan presents a double reading, Behar-Bechukotai, from Leviticus 25:1–27:34. Behar means “On the Mount,” and Bechukotai means “By My Decrees.”

The Sabbath is perhaps the most misunderstood commandment. Far from an austere day of legalistic rules prohibiting your favorite activities, it’s an invitation to slow down and experience delight. In this seven-day reading plan, we’ll look at how the Bible describes Sabbath as a wellspring of joy, gratitude, connection, justice, peace, and delight. By walking the Sabbath way, we can receive the abundant life Jesus came to offer us.

Do you find yourself living as if you could earn God’s love or fear you could lose it? Scripture tells a different story: God’s love is impartial. This devotional by Oghosa Iyamu traces the often-overlooked attribute of God’s impartial love throughout the biblical narrative, inviting you to receive and reflect this kind of love.
