The Valley of Dry Bones
1The hand of the Lord was on me, # 37:1 Ezk 1:3 and he brought me out by his Spirit # 37:1 Ezk 8:3; 11:24 and set me down in the middle of the valley; it was full of bones. 2He led me all around them. There were a great many of them on the surface of the valley, and they were very dry. 3Then he said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live? ”
I replied, “Lord God, only you know.” # 37:3 Dt 32:39; 1Sm 2:6
4He said to me, “Prophesy concerning these bones and say to them: Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! 5This is what the Lord God says to these bones: I will cause breath to enter you, and you will live. # 37:5 Gn 2:7; Ps 104:29–30 6I will put tendons on you, make flesh grow on you, and cover you with skin. I will put breath in you so that you come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.” # 37:6 Jl 2:27; 3:17
7So I prophesied as I had been commanded. While I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone. 8As I looked, tendons appeared on them, flesh grew, and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them. 9He said to me, “Prophesy to the breath, # 37:9 Or wind, or spirit, also in v. 10 prophesy, son of man. Say to it: This is what the Lord God says: Breath, come from the four winds and breathe into these slain so that they may live! ” # 37:9 Ps 104:30 10So I prophesied as he commanded me; the breath entered them, # 37:10 Rv 11:11 and they came to life and stood on their feet, a vast army.
11Then he said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. # 37:11 Ezk 36:10 Look how they say, ‘Our bones are dried up, # 37:11 Ps 141:7 and our hope has perished; # 37:11 Eph 2:12 we are cut off.’ # 37:11 Is 49:14; Lm 3:54 12Therefore, prophesy and say to them, ‘This is what the Lord God says: I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them, # 37:12 Is 26:19; 66:14; Hs 13:14; Rm 11:15 my people, and lead you into the land of Israel. 13You will know that I am the Lord, my people, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. # 37:13 Jn 5:28–29; 1Co 15:21–22; Rv 20:4–5 14I will put my Spirit in you, # 37:14 Ezk 36:27 and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I am the Lord. I have spoken, and I will do it. # 37:14 Ezk 17:24 This is the declaration of the Lord.’ ”
The Reunification of Israel
15The word of the Lord came to me: 16“Son of man, take a single stick and write on it: # 37:16 Nm 17:2–3 Belonging to Judah and the Israelites associated with him. Then take another stick and write on it: Belonging to Joseph — the stick of Ephraim — and all the house of Israel associated with him. # 37:16 2Ch 11:11–17 17Then join them together into a single stick so that they become one in your hand. # 37:17 Is 11:13; Hs 1:11 18When your people ask you, ‘Won’t you explain to us what you mean by these things? ’ # 37:18 Ezk 12:9; 24:19 — 19tell them, ‘This is what the Lord God says: I am going to take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel associated with him, and put them together with the stick of Judah. I will make them into a single stick so that they become one in my hand.’
20“When the sticks you have written on are in your hand and in full view of the people, # 37:20 Ezk 12:3 21tell them, ‘This is what the Lord God says: I am going to take the Israelites out of the nations where they have gone. # 37:21 Ezk 36:24 I will gather them from all around and bring them into their own land. 22I will make them one nation in the land, # 37:22 Jr 3:18 on the mountains of Israel, and one king will rule over all of them. # 37:22 Ezk 34:23–24 They will no longer be two nations and will no longer be divided into two kingdoms. 23They will not defile themselves anymore with their idols, # 37:23 Ezk 36:25 their abhorrent things, and all their transgressions. # 37:23 Ezk 36:28–29 I will save them from all their apostasies by which # 37:23 Some Hb mss, LXX, Sym; other Hb mss read their settlements where they sinned, # 37:23 Rm 11:26 and I will cleanse them. Then they will be my people, and I will be their God. # 37:23 Ezk 36:38 24My servant David will be king over them, and there will be one shepherd for all of them. # 37:24 Ezk 34:23–24; Jn 10:16 They will follow my ordinances, and keep my statutes and obey them. # 37:24 Ezk 36:27
25“ ‘They will live in the land that I gave to my servant Jacob, # 37:25 Is 60:21 where your ancestors lived. They will live in it forever with their children and grandchildren, and my servant David will be their prince forever. # 37:25 Jn 12:34 26I will make a covenant of peace with them; # 37:26 Is 54:10; Ezk 34:25 it will be a permanent covenant # 37:26 Is 55:3; Jr 32:40; Ezk 16:60; Heb 13:20 with them. I will establish and multiply them and will set my sanctuary among them forever. 27My dwelling place will be with them; # 37:27 Jn 1:14 I will be their God, and they will be my people. # 37:27 Ezk 36:28 28When my sanctuary is among them forever, the nations will know that I, the Lord, sanctify Israel.’ ” # 37:28 Ezk 20:12

1The Yad Hashem was upon me, and carried me out in the Ruach#37:1 Hakodesh of Hashem, and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of atzmot, 2And caused me to pass by them round about; and, hinei, there were rabbot me'od in the open valley; and, hinei, they were very dry. 3And He said unto me, Ben Adam, can these atzmot live? And I answered, Adonoi Hashem, Thou knowest. 4Again He said unto me, Prophesy upon these atzmot, and say unto them, O ye atzmot hayeveshot, hear the Devar Hashem. 5Thus saith Adonoi Hashem unto these atzmot: Hinei, I will cause ruach to enter into you, and ye shall live; 6And I will lay gidim (sinews, tendons) upon you, and will bring up basar upon you, and cover you with ohr (skin), and put ruach in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall have da'as that I am Hashem.
7So I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and hinei a rattling, and the atzmot came together, etzem to its etzem. 8And when I beheld, hinei, the gidim and the basar came up upon them, and the ohr covered them above; but there was no ruach in them. 9Then said He unto me, Prophesy unto the ruach; prophesy, Ben Adam, and say to the ruach, Thus saith Adonoi Hashem: Come from the arba ruchot, O ruach, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live. 10So I prophesied as He commanded me, and the ruach came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their raglayim, a chayil gadol me'od me'od.
11Then He said unto me, Ben Adam, these atzmot are the kol Bais Yisroel. Hinei, they say, Our atzmot are dried up, and tikvateinu (our hope) is gone; nigzarnu lanu (we are cut off). 12Therefore prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith Adonoi Hashem: Hinei, O My people, I will open your keverot, and cause you to come up out of your keverot, and bring you into Admat Yisroel (the Land of Israel). 13And ye shall know that I am Hashem, when I have opened your keverot, O My people, and brought you up out of your keverot, 14And shall put My Ruach in you, and ye shall live, and I shall place you in your own land; then shall ye know that I Hashem have spoken it, and performed it, saith Hashem.
15The Devar Hashem came again unto me, saying, 16Moreover, thou ben adam, take thee Etz Echad, and write upon it, For Yehudah, and for the Bnei Yisroel his chaverim; then take another Etz Echad, and write upon it, For Yosef, the Etz Ephrayim and for kol Bais Yisroel his chaverim; 17And join them one to another into Etz Echad; and they shall become achadim (one) in thine yad. 18And when the Bnei Amecha speak unto thee, saying, Wilt thou not show us what thou meanest by these? 19Say unto them, Thus saith Adonoi Hashem: Hinei, I will take the Etz Yosef, which is in the Yad Ephrayim, and the Shivtei Yisroel his chaverim, and will put them with him, even with the Etz Yehudah, and make them Etz Echad, and they shall be Echad in Mine Yad. 20And the Etzim whereon thou writest shall be in thine yad before their eyes. 21And say unto them, Thus saith Adonoi Hashem: Hinei, I will take the Bnei Yisroel from among the Goyim, whither they be gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land; 22And I will make them Goy Echad in the land upon the mountains of Yisroel; and Melech Echad shall be Melech to them all; and they shall be no more two Goyim, neither shall they be divided into two Mamlachot any more at all. 23Neither shall they make themselves tameh any more with their gillulim, nor with their shikkutzim, nor with any of their peysha'im; but I will save them out of all their moshavot wherein they have sinned, and will make them tahor; so shall they be My people, and I will be their Elohim.
24And Avdi Dovid#37:24 Moshiach shall be Melech over them; and they all shall have Ro'eh Echad; they shall also walk in My mishpatim, and observe My chukkot, and do them. 25And they shall dwell in HaAretz that I have given unto Avdi Ya'akov, wherein your Avot have dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, even they, and their banim, and their bnei banim ad olam; and Dovid Avdi#37:25 Moshiach shall be their Nasi l'olam. 26Moreover I will make a Brit Shalom with them; it shall be a Brit Olam with them; and I will establish them, and multiply them, and will set My Mikdash in the midst of them l'olam. 27My Mishkan also shall be with them; yes, I will be their Elohim, and they shall be My people. 28And the Goyim shall know that I Hashem set apart as kodesh Yisroel, when My Mikdash shall be in the midst of them l'olam (forever).
