The Light of the Gospel
1Therefore, since we have this ministry because we were shown mercy, # 4:1 Mt 5:7; Mk 5:19; Lk 1:50 we do not give up. # 4:1 2Th 3:13 2Instead, we have renounced secret and shameful things, not acting # 4:2 2Jn 6 deceitfully or distorting the word of God, # 4:2 2Co 2:17; 2Tm 2:15; Heb 4:12 but commending ourselves before God to everyone’s conscience by an open display of the truth. # 4:2 2Co 5:11–12; 6:7; 7:14 3But if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. 4In their case, the god of this age # 4:4 Lk 16:8 has blinded the minds of the unbelievers to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, # 4:4 Or the gospel of the glorious Christ, or the glorious gospel of Christ,# 4:4 Mk 10:37 who is the image of God. # 4:4 Gn 1:27 5For we are not proclaiming ourselves but Jesus Christ as Lord, # 4:5 Php 2:11 and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’s sake. 6For God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” # 4:6 Gn 1:3; Mt 6:23 has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge # 4:6 Php 3:8; 1Jn 4:8 of God’s glory # 4:6 Mk 10:37; Lk 9:32; Jn 17:24; 2Co 3:18; 2Pt 3:18 in the face of Jesus Christ.
Treasure in Clay Jars
7Now we have this treasure in clay jars, so that this extraordinary power # 4:7 Mk 5:30; Lk 1:35; 6:19; Ac 19:11; 2Co 13:4; Rv 11:17 may be from God and not from us. 8We are afflicted in every way but not crushed; we are perplexed but not in despair; 9we are persecuted but not abandoned; we are struck down but not destroyed. 10We always carry the death of Jesus # 4:10 Lk 9:23; Rm 5:6–8; 6:5–8; 8:34–36; Gl 6:17 in our body, so that the life of Jesus may also be displayed in our body. 11For we who live are always being given over to death # 4:11 Mt 10:21; Jn 8:51; Php 3:10 for Jesus’s sake, so that Jesus’s life may also be displayed in our mortal flesh. 12So then, death is at work in us, but life in you. 13And since we have the same spirit of faith in keeping with what is written, I believed, therefore I spoke, # 4:13 Ps 116:10 LXX,# 4:13 Ps 116:10 LXX we also believe, and therefore speak. 14For we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus will also raise us with Jesus # 4:14 1Th 4:14 and present us with you. 15Indeed, everything is for your benefit so that, as grace extends through more and more people, it may cause thanksgiving # 4:15 2Co 9:11 to increase to the glory of God.
16Therefore we do not give up. # 4:16 2Th 3:13 Even though our outer person is being destroyed, our inner person # 4:16 Rm 7:22 is being renewed day by day. 17For our momentary light affliction # 4:17 Gl 6:2 is producing for us an absolutely incomparable eternal weight of glory. # 4:17 Lk 24:26; 1Pt 5:1,4 18So we do not focus on what is seen, # 4:18 Rm 8:24 but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

2 Corinthians 4

1Therefore, since it is by the chesed of Hashem that we have this Sherut avodas kodesh (ministry), we are undaunted.#4:1 Ps 18:45; Isa 40:31 2But we renounced the hidden things of bushah (shame), not going about with remiyah (deceit) nor falsifying the dvar Hashem. Rather by the manifestation of HaEmes we present ourselves to every manʼs matzpun in the sight of Hashem.#4:2 2C 2:17; 1Th 2:5 3But if indeed our Besuras HaGeulah is nistar (hidden), it is nistar among the ones perishing,#4:3 2C 1:18 4In whose case the g-d of the Olam Hazeh#4:4 Ep 2:2 blinded the minds of the ones without emunah, so the illumination of the Besuras HaGeulah of the kavod of Moshiach, who is the demut of Hashem,#4:4 Co 1:15; MJ 1:3 would not shine on them. 5For we preach not ourselves but Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach Adoneinu Yehoshua and ourselves as your avadim (servants) for Yehoshuaʼs sake.#4:5 2C 1:24 6Because Hashem is the One who said, “Let Ohr shine out of choshech”#4:6 Gn 1:3; Isa 9:2 who shone in our levavot for an illumination of the da'as of the kavod of Hashem in the face of Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach Yehoshua.#4:6 2C 3:18
7Now we have this otzar (treasure) in earthen vessels#4:7 2C 5:1 that the excellence of the ko'ach may be of Hashem and not of us.#4:7 Job 4:19; Isa 64:8; Judg 7:2 8Being oppressed on every side#4:8 2C 1:8; 7:5 but not being crushed, being perplexed but not in ye'ush (despair, atzvut), 9Being persecuted but not forsaken, being cast down but not destroyed,#4:9 Ps 37:24; Prov 24:16 10Always bearing about the dying of Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach in my basar that also the Chayyim of Moshiach in geviyyateinu might be manifested.#4:10 Gn 47:18; Ps 16:9-10; Job 19:25-27; Isa 53:11 11For always we, the ones living, are being given over to mavet because of Moshiach#4:11 Ro 8:36; 1C 15:31 that also the Chayyim of Moshiach may be manifested in our mortal basar. 12So then Mavet works in us but Chayyim in you.
13And having the same Ruach Hakodesh of emunah that is in accordance with the Kitvei Hakodesh, HE'EMANITI KI ADABER#4:13 Ps 116:10 (I believed, therefore I speak), we both believed and therefore we speak, 14Having da'as that the One who made to stand up alive Adoneinu Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach Yehoshua will make us also with Yehoshua stand up alive and will present us with you.#4:14 Ro 8:11; 1C 6:14; 15:15,20 15For all things are because of you#4:15 2C 1:3-6 that the Chen v'Chesed Hashem, having increased through the many, may increase the hodayah (thanksgiving) to the kavod of Hashem.
16Therefore we are undaunted and do not lose chozek (strength). For, indeed, even if our outward man is becoming old and atrophied, yet our inward man is yom yom being renewed.#4:16 Ep 3:16; Ps 18:45; 103:5; Isa 40:31 17For our present momentary tzoros is preparing us for an eternal weight of kavod (glory) utterly beyond measure,#4:17 Ps 30:5; Ro 8:17-18 18While we continue to look not at the visible things but the invisible;#4:18 Co 1:16; MJ 11:1,3 for the things visible are zemanniyim (temporary) but the things invisible are for l'olamim.
