2 Corinthians 2
2
1In fact, I made up my mind about this: I would not come to you on another painful visit. # 2:1 Lit not again in sorrow to come to you 2For if I cause you pain, then who will cheer me other than the one being hurt by me? # 2:2 Lit the one pained 3I wrote this very thing so that when I came I wouldn’t have pain from those who ought to give me joy, because I am confident # 2:3 Php 1:25 about all of you that my joy will also be yours. 4For I wrote to you with many tears out of an extremely troubled and anguished heart — not to cause you pain, but that you should know the abundant love I have for you.
A Sinner Forgiven
5If anyone has caused pain, he has caused pain not so much to me but to some degree — not to exaggerate # 2:5 2Th 3:8 — to all of you. 6This punishment by the majority is sufficient for that person. 7As a result, you should instead forgive # 2:7 Mt 6:12 and comfort him. Otherwise, he may be overwhelmed by excessive grief. 8Therefore I urge you to reaffirm your love to him. 9I wrote for this purpose: to test your character # 2:9 Rm 5:4 to see if you are obedient # 2:9 Php 2:8 in everything. 10Anyone you forgive, I do too. For what I have forgiven — if I have forgiven anything — it is for your benefit in the presence of Christ, 11so that we may not be taken advantage # 2:11 2Co 12:17 of by Satan. For we are not ignorant of his schemes.
A Trip to Macedonia
12When I came to Troas # 2:12 Ac 16:8 to preach the gospel of Christ, even though the Lord opened a door # 2:12 Col 4:3 for me, 13I had no rest # 2:13 2Th 1:7 in my spirit because I did not find my brother Titus. # 2:13 Ti 1:4 Instead, I said good-bye to them and left for Macedonia. # 2:13 Ac 16:9
A Ministry of Life or Death
14But thanks be to God, # 2:14 1Co 15:57 who always leads us in Christ’s triumphal procession and through us spreads the aroma of the knowledge of him in every place. # 2:14 Jn 17:3; 1Jn 4:8 15For to God we are the fragrance # 2:15 Eph 5:2; Php 4:18 of Christ among those who are being saved # 2:15 Mt 9:22; Ac 16:30; Eph 2:8 and among those who are perishing. # 2:15 Jn 6:27 16To some we are an aroma of death # 2:16 Mt 10:21; Jn 8:51; Php 3:10 leading to death, but to others, an aroma of life # 2:16 1Jn 5:12 leading to life. Who is adequate for these things? 17For we do not market the word of God # 2:17 Mt 12:36; Mk 4:14; Lk 6:47; 8:21; Jn 1:1; 2:22; 18:32; Ac 17:11; 2Tm 2:15; Heb 4:12 for profit like so many. # 2:17 Other mss read like the rest On the contrary, we speak with sincerity in Christ, as from God and before God.

2 Corinthians 2
2
1For I decided this in myself: not again to come to you in agmat nefesh (grief).#2:1 1C 4:21; 2C 12:21 2For if I grieve you, then who is the one cheering me except the one I have caused to have agmat nefesh? 3And I wrote the iggeret as I did, so that when I came, I should not have agmat nefesh from those who should have brought me simcha; for I have confidence about you all, that my simcha would be the simcha of all of you. 4For out of much tzoros and of lev (heart) distress I wrote the iggeret to you with many tears,#2:4 Ac 20:31 not that you should have agmat nefesh, but that you may have da'as of the ahavah in Hashem which I have more abundantly for all of you.
5Now if anyone has caused agmat nefesh (grief), it is not me he has grieved, but to some extent, not to be too severe he has grieved you all.#2:5 1C 5:1 6Sufficient to such a man was this onesh (penalty) by the roiv (majority), 7So that, on the contrary, rather you ought to give selichah (forgiveness) and chozek (strength) to him lest efsher (perhaps) such a one may be swallowed up by overwhelming remorse. 8Therefore I urge you to confirm to him your ahavah (love). 9For I wrote the iggeret to this end, that I may have da'as that you are tested and proven, that in all things you have mishma'at (obedience).#2:9 2C 7:15; 10:6 10Now to anyone whom you give selichah (forgiveness) of anything, I do as well, for indeed what I have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, it is for your sake in the presence of Moshiach; 11Lest we should be outsmarted by HaSatan;#2:11 Lk 22:31 for we do not lack da'as of his kesharim (conspiracies).
12But having come to Troas for the purpose of proclaiming the Besuras HaGeulah of Moshiach, and a delet (door) to me having been opened by Adoneinu,#2:12 Ezek 20:14; Ac 14:27; 1C 16:9; Co 4:3; Rv 3:8 13I did not have shalom in my neshamah when I was not able to find Titos my Ach b'Moshiach. So I took leave of them and I went on to Macedonia.#2:13 Ac 20:1
14But Baruch Hashem, the One in whom we are given the nitzachon (victory), Who always leads us in triumph in Moshiach and, through us, in every place spreads the fragrance of the da'as of Him. 15For we are the aroma of Moshiach to Hashem among the ones coming to Yeshu'at Elokeinu, and among the ones perishing:#2:15 Dan 12:2 16To the latter ones an odor of mavet unto mavet; but to the former ones a fragrance of Chayim (life) unto Chayim.#2:16 Lk 2:34 Who is sufficient for these things?#2:16 2C 3:5-6 17For we are not as many, peddling the dvar Hashem, but as from sincerity, as from Hashem, in the presence of Hashem, in Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach we speak.#2:17 2C 1:12; 1K 4:11
