Psalms 56

Psalm 56
Supplication for Rescue and Grateful Trust in God.
To the Chief Musician; set to [the tune of] “Silent Dove Among Those Far Away.” A Mikhtam of David. [A record of memorable thoughts] when the Philistines seized him in Gath.
1Be gracious to me, O God, for man has trampled on me;
All day long the adversary oppresses and torments me.
2My enemies have trampled upon me all day long,
For they are many who fight proudly against me.
3When I am afraid,
I will put my trust and faith in You.
4In God, whose word I praise;
In God I have put my trust;
I shall not fear.
What can mere man do to me?
5All day long they twist my words and say hurtful things;
All their thoughts are against me for evil.
6They attack, they hide and lurk,
They watch my steps,
As they have [expectantly] waited to take my life.
7Cast them out because of their wickedness.
In anger bring down the peoples, O God!
8¶You have taken account of my wanderings;
Put my tears in Your bottle.
Are they not recorded in Your book?
9Then my enemies will turn back in the day when I call;
This I know, that God is for me. [Rom 8:31]
10In God, whose word I praise,
In the Lord, whose word I praise,
11In God have I put my trust and confident reliance; I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?
12Your vows are binding upon me, O God;
I will give thank offerings to You.
13For You have rescued my soul from death,
Yes, and my feet from stumbling,
So that I may walk before God
In the light of life.

Psalm 56
56
1 Unto the end. May you not destroy. Of David, with the inscription of a title, when he fled from Saul into a cave.
2 Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me. For my soul trusts in you. And I will hope in the shadow of your wings, until iniquity passes away.
3 I will cry out to God Most High, to God who has been kind to me.
4 He sent from heaven and freed me. He has surrendered into disgrace those who trampled me. God has sent his mercy and his truth.
5 And he has rescued my soul from the midst of the young lions. I slept troubled. The sons of men: their teeth are weapons and arrows, and their tongue is a sharp sword.
6 Be exalted above the heavens, O God, and your glory above all the earth.
7 They prepared a snare for my feet, and they bowed down my soul. They dug a pit before my face, yet they have fallen into it.
8 My heart is prepared, O God, my heart is prepared. I will sing, and I will compose a psalm.
9 Rise up, my glory. Rise up, psaltery and harp. I will arise in early morning.
10 I will confess to you, O Lord, among the peoples. I will compose a psalm to you among the nations.
11 For your mercy has been magnified, even to the heavens, and your truth, even to the clouds.
12 Be exalted above the heavens, O God, and your glory above all the earth.
