Psalms 127

Psalm 127
Prosperity Comes from the Lord.
A Song of #127:0 See Psalm 120 title note.Ascents. Of Solomon.
1Unless the Lord builds the house,
They labor in vain who build it;
Unless the Lord guards the city,
The watchman keeps awake in vain. [Ps 121:1, 3, 5]
2It is vain for you to rise early,
To retire late,
To eat the bread of anxious labors—
For He gives [blessings] to His beloved even in his sleep.
3¶Behold, children are a heritage and gift from the Lord,
The fruit of the womb a reward. [Deut 28:4]
4Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,
So are the children of one’s youth.
5How blessed [happy and fortunate] is the man whose quiver is filled with them;
They will not be ashamed
When they speak with their enemies [in gatherings] at the [city] gate.

Psalms 127

Psalm 127
A song by Solomon for going up to worship.
1If the Lord does not build the house,
it is useless for the builders to work on it.
If the Lord does not protect a city,
it is useless for the guard to stay alert.
2It is useless to work hard for the food you eat
by getting up early and going to bed late.
The Lord gives ⌞food⌟ to those he loves while they sleep.
3Children are an inheritance from the Lord.
They are a reward from him.
4The children born to a man when he is young
are like arrows in the hand of a warrior.
5Blessed is the man who has filled his quiver with them.
He will not be put to shame
when he speaks with his enemies in the city gate.
