¶“For the [judgment] day of the LORD draws near on all the nations. As you have done, it shall be done to you [in retribution]; Your [evil] dealings will return on your own head. [Ps 137:7-9; Is 2:10-22; Zeph 3:8-20; Zech 12:1-14; Rev 19:11-21] “Because just as you [Edom] drank on My holy mountain [desecrating it in the revelry of the destroyers], So shall all the nations drink continually [one by one, of My wrath]; Yes, they shall drink and swallow [the full measure of punishment] And become as though they had never existed. [Rev 16:14-16] “But on Mount Zion [in Jerusalem] there shall be [deliverance for] those who escape, And it shall be holy [no pagan will defile it]; And the house of Jacob shall possess their [former] possessions. [Ezek 36; Joel 2:32] “Then the house of Jacob shall be a fire And the house of Joseph a flame [in executing God’s wrath]; But the house of Esau will be like stubble. They (Jacob) shall set them on fire and consume them (the Edomites), So that there shall be no survivor of the house of Esau,” For the LORD has spoken. [Ezek 25:12-14] Then those of the Negev shall possess the mountain of Esau, And those of the Shephelah [shall possess] the Philistine plain; Also, [they shall] possess the fields of Ephraim and the fields of Samaria, And Benjamin will possess Gilead [across the Jordan River]. [Amos 9:12; Zeph 2:7] And the exiles of this host of the sons (descendants) of Israel Who are among the Canaanites as far as Zarephath, And the exiles of Jerusalem who are in Sepharad Shall possess the cities of the Negev. The deliverers shall go up on Mount Zion To rule and judge the mountain of Esau, And the kingdom and the kingship shall be the LORD’S. [Zech 12:8, 9; Mal 1:2-5; Matt 24:27-30; Luke 1:31-33; Acts 15:14-17]

This devotion taken from Book of Obadiah will equip you with biblical truths and guide you to practice it daily as you continue your walk of faith in Christ.
Prophet Obadiah castigated the nation of Edom, Esau’s descendants, as they took advantage of the Israelites, their close relatives when Babylon invaded Jerusalem. Instead of lending a helping hand, the Edomites gloated over, plundered, and even killed the Israelite refugees. This shortest book in the Old Testament ends with the victorious promise that God’s people will be restored and His eternal Kingdom will last forever.
Obadiah presents prophetic truth regarding the destruction of Edom, a prideful nation descended from Esau. Edom’s pride and animosity towards Israel ultimately resulted in a violent war. Obadiah ends his book declaring, “the kingdom shall be the LORD’s,” pointing toward God’s plan to defeat all His enemies and establish His rule and reign forever.
