Chúa kêu gọi Giê-rê-mi

1Đây là sứ điệp của Giê-rê-mi, con trai Hinh-kia, một trong những thầy tế lễ ở A-na-tốt, xứ Bên-gia-min. 2Đức Giê-hô-va đã phán lời nầy với ông vào năm thứ mười ba thời trị vì của Giô-si-a, con trai A-môn, vua Giu-đa,#II Vua 22:3–23:27; II Sử 34:8–35:19. 3và suốt thời trị vì của Giê-hô-gia-kim, con trai Giô-si-a, vua Giu-đa, cho đến cuối năm thứ mười một thời Sê-đê-kia, con trai Giô-si-a, vua Giu-đa, khi dân thành Giê-ru-sa-lem bị lưu đày vào tháng thứ năm.#II Vua 23:36–24:7; 24:18–25:21; II Sử 36:5-8,11-21.

4Lời của Đức Giê-hô-va phán với tôi rằng:

5“Trước khi tạo nên con trong lòng mẹ, Ta đã biết con,

Trước khi con ra đời, Ta đã biệt riêng con;

Ta đã lập con làm nhà tiên tri cho các nước.”

6Tôi thưa: “Ôi! Lạy Chúa Giê-hô-va! Con không biết ăn nói thế nào, vì con còn non trẻ.” 7Nhưng Đức Giê-hô-va phán với tôi:

“Đừng nói: ‘Con còn non trẻ;’

Vì con sẽ đi khắp nơi nào Ta sai con đi,

Và sẽ nói mọi điều Ta truyền con nói.

8Đừng sợ chúng nó,

Vì Ta ở với con để giải cứu con.”

Đức Giê-hô-va phán vậy.

9Rồi Đức Giê-hô-va đưa tay chạm vào miệng tôi. Đức Giê-hô-va phán với tôi:

“Nầy, Ta đã đặt lời Ta trong miệng con.

10Hãy xem, ngày nay Ta đã lập con nắm quyền trên các dân tộc, các vương quốc,

Để con bứng gốc hoặc phá sập,

Tiêu diệt hoặc lật đổ,

Xây dựng hoặc vun trồng.”

11Lời Đức Giê-hô-va lại đến với tôi: “Giê-rê-mi, con thấy gì?” Tôi thưa: “Con thấy một nhánh cây hạnh.”#1:11 Tiếng Hê-bơ-rơ gọi cây nầy là “cây đánh thức” vì nó trổ bông trước các cây khác. 12Đức Giê-hô-va phán: “Con thấy đúng đó, Ta đang thức để thực hiện lời Ta đã phán.”

13Lời Đức Giê-hô-va lại đến với tôi lần thứ hai rằng: “Con thấy gì?” Tôi thưa: “Con thấy một nồi nước sôi, miệng nồi nghiêng xuống từ phương bắc.” 14Đức Giê-hô-va phán: “Tai họa từ phương bắc sẽ giáng trên tất cả cư dân trong xứ nầy. 15Vì nầy, Ta sẽ triệu tập tất cả dòng tộc của các vương quốc phương bắc lại — Đức Giê-hô-va phán vậy — chúng sẽ đến và tất cả đều đặt ngai mình tại lối vào các cổng thành Giê-ru-sa-lem, bao vây thành lũy nó cũng như tất cả các thành của Giu-đa. 16Ta sẽ tuyên án trừng phạt chúng về mọi điều gian ác mà chúng đã làm khi lìa bỏ Ta, dâng hương cho các thần khác, và cúi lạy các sản phẩm do tay chúng làm ra. 17Nhưng riêng con, hãy thắt lưng và nhanh chóng nói với chúng mọi điều mà Ta truyền cho con. Đừng khiếp sợ chúng kẻo chính Ta làm cho con khiếp sợ trước mặt chúng. 18Nầy ngày nay, chính Ta lập con lên làm một thành trì vững chắc, làm cột sắt, tường đồng để chống lại cả xứ nầy, chống lại các vua Giu-đa, các thủ lĩnh, các thầy tế lễ, và dân trong xứ. 19Chúng sẽ giao chiến với con nhưng không thắng được — Đức Giê-hô-va phán vậy — vì Ta ở với con để giải cứu con.”

Jeremiah 1

1The words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, one of the priests at Anathoth in the territory of Benjamin. 2The word of the Lord came to him in the thirteenth year of the reign of Josiah son of Amon king of Judah, 3and through the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, down to the fifth month of the eleventh year of Zedekiah son of Josiah king of Judah, when the people of Jerusalem went into exile.

The Call of Jeremiah

4The word of the Lord came to me, saying,

5“Before I formed you in the womb I knew#1:5 Or chose you,

before you were born I set you apart;

I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

6“Alas, Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.”

7But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. 8Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord.

9Then the Lord reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “I have put my words in your mouth. 10See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.”

11The word of the Lord came to me: “What do you see, Jeremiah?”

“I see the branch of an almond tree,” I replied.

12The Lord said to me, “You have seen correctly, for I am watching#1:12 The Hebrew for watching sounds like the Hebrew for almond tree. to see that my word is fulfilled.”

13The word of the Lord came to me again: “What do you see?”

“I see a pot that is boiling,” I answered. “It is tilting toward us from the north.”

14The Lord said to me, “From the north disaster will be poured out on all who live in the land. 15I am about to summon all the peoples of the northern kingdoms,” declares the Lord.

“Their kings will come and set up their thrones

in the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem;

they will come against all her surrounding walls

and against all the towns of Judah.

16I will pronounce my judgments on my people

because of their wickedness in forsaking me,

in burning incense to other gods

and in worshiping what their hands have made.

17“Get yourself ready! Stand up and say to them whatever I command you. Do not be terrified by them, or I will terrify you before them. 18Today I have made you a fortified city, an iron pillar and a bronze wall to stand against the whole land—against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests and the people of the land. 19They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord.
