Much to humanity's dismay, Jesus issued the disappointing news in John 16, verse 33: “Here on earth you will have many trials & sorrows.” Why didn’t He tell His faithful followers that He was removing heartache & tragedy from this earth? In John 16, the disciples are nervous, scared, and confused that Jesus is leaving, and the world will turn against them. Jesus tells them that no matter what happens next, they are not alone. The Spirit will guide them, the Father loves them, and Jesus will come back for them. No matter what comes through those doors, Jesus has won the battle; we can trust what we can’t always see.

In times of trouble, God’s words have a special application to the challenging moments of our lives. His words alone give us the hope we need and overflow with his promises of real love, forgiveness, salvation, peace, hope, and joy. The passages in this plan describe these present and eternal blessings. They’re a reminder of the real love, tremendous assurance, and ultimate value all believers have through faith in Jesus.
