Finding ourselves in a situation where we feel trapped, with no apparent way out, is challenging. Perhaps you’ve experienced a time when you said, “There’s just no possible way out of here.” But God, in His unwavering faithfulness, is always there to rescue us. He lifts our heads from despair, enabling us to shift our focus to His glorious presence.

God, through His Word, gives a pretty clear picture of what it means to love unconditionally. This type of love isn’t just meant to be a four-letter word—it’s a way of being. It’s something that should pour out of us so naturally that it is present within every action—and in the ways we are called to fill in the gaps and be there for those around us. This truth was the heart of the civil rights movement, and this truth defined Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision for all to be recipients of justice and compassion.

Advent invites us to journey through the darkness to discover the light, the incarnate Word of God who "shines in the darkness" (John 1:5). The Gospel is a message of freedom. We know this first-hand because we have been made free and have experienced the joy of liberation. We were dead and now we are alive.
