Psalms 131
131
PSALM 131
Common Meter: 8,6,8,6
A Song of degrees of David.
1My heart not haughty is, O Lord,
mine eyes not lofty be;
Nor do I deal in matters great,
or things too high for me.
2I surely have myself behav'd
with quiet sp'rit and mild,
As child of mother wean'd: my soul
is like a weaned child.
3Upon the Lord let all the hope
of Israel rely,
Ev'n from the time that present is
unto eternity.

Psalms 131
131
A song of David for going up to the Temple.
1Lord, I don’t feel proud.
I don’t see myself as better than others.
I am not thinking about doing great things
or reaching impossible goals.
2No, right now I am calm and quiet,
like a child after nursing,
content in its mother’s arms.#131:2 like a child … arms Or “like a baby on its mother’s back, like a baby on my back, so is my soul.” The metaphor may refer to the custom of a working mother tying her baby on her back after nursing.
3Israel, trust in the Lord.
Trust in him now and forever!
