Greetings to the Christians
1I recommend to you our sister Phoebe. She is a helper# Literally, “deaconess.” This might mean the same as one of the special women helpers in 1 Timothy 3:11. in the church in Cenchrea. 2I ask you to accept her in the Lord in the way God’s people should. Help her with anything she needs because she has helped me and many other people too.
3Give my greetings to Priscilla and Aquila, who work together with me in Christ Jesus. 4They risked their own lives to save my life. I am thankful to them, and all the non-Jewish churches are thankful to them as well. 5Also, greet for me the church that meets at their house.
Greetings to my dear friend Epenetus. He was the first person in Asia to follow Christ. 6Greetings to Mary, who worked very hard for you. 7Greetings to Andronicus and Junias, my relatives, who were in prison with me. The apostles feel they are very important. They were believers in Christ before I was. 8Greetings to Ampliatus, my dear friend in the Lord. 9Greetings to Urbanus. He is a worker together with me for Christ. And greetings to my dear friend Stachys. 10Greetings to Apelles. He was tested and proved that he truly loves Christ. Greetings to all those who are in the family of Aristobulus. 11Greetings to Herodion, my relative. Greetings to all those in the family of Narcissus who belong to the Lord. 12Greetings to Tryphena and Tryphosa. Those women work very hard for the Lord. Greetings to my dear friend Persis. She also has worked very hard for the Lord. 13Greetings to Rufus who is a special person in the Lord. Greetings to his mother, who has been a mother to me also. 14Greetings to Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermes, Patrobas, Hermas, and all the brothers who are with them. 15Greetings to Philologus and Julia, Nereus and his sister, and Olympas. And greetings to all God’s people with them. 16Greet each other with a holy kiss. All of Christ’s churches send greetings to you.
17Brothers, I ask you to look out for those who cause people to be against each other and who upset other people’s faith. They are against the true teaching you learned. Stay away from them. 18For such people are not serving our Lord Christ. They are only doing what pleases themselves. They use fancy talk and fine words to fool the minds of those who do not know about evil. 19All the believers have heard that you obey. So I am very happy because of you. But I want you to be wise in what is good and innocent in what is evil.
20The God who brings peace will soon defeat Satan and give you power over him.
The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.
21Timothy, a worker together with me, sends greetings, as well as Lucius, Jason, and Sosipater, my relatives.
22I am Tertius, and I am writing this letter from Paul. I send greetings to you in the Lord.
23Gaius is letting me and the whole church here use his home. He also sends greetings to you, as do Erastus and our brother Quartus. Erastus is the city treasurer here. 24[The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with all of you. Amen.]# Some Greek copies do not contain the bracketed text.
25Glory to God! God is the One who can make you strong in faith by the Good News that I tell people and by the message about Jesus Christ. The message about Christ is the secret truth that was hidden for long ages past, but is now made known. 26It has been made clear through the writings of the prophets. And by the command of the eternal God it is made known to all nations, that they might believe and obey.
27To the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen.

Personal greetings
1I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a deacon#16:1 Or servant#16:1 The word deacon refers here to a Christian designated to serve with the overseers/elders of the church in a variety of ways; similarly in Phil. 1:1 and 1 Tim. 3:8,12. of the church in Cenchreae. 2I ask you to receive her in the Lord in a way worthy of his people and to give her any help she may need from you, for she has been the benefactor of many people, including me.
3Greet Priscilla#16:3 Greek Prisca, a variant of Priscilla and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus. 4They risked their lives for me. Not only I but all the churches of the Gentiles are grateful to them.
5Greet also the church that meets at their house.
Greet my dear friend Epenetus, who was the first convert to Christ in the province of Asia.
6Greet Mary, who worked very hard for you.
7Greet Andronicus and Junia, my fellow Jews who have been in prison with me. They are outstanding among#16:7 Or are esteemed by the apostles, and they were in Christ before I was.
8Greet Ampliatus, my dear friend in the Lord.
9Greet Urbanus, our fellow worker in Christ, and my dear friend Stachys.
10Greet Apelles, whose fidelity to Christ has stood the test.
Greet those who belong to the household of Aristobulus.
11Greet Herodion, my fellow Jew.
Greet those in the household of Narcissus who are in the Lord.
12Greet Tryphena and Tryphosa, those women who work hard in the Lord.
Greet my dear friend Persis, another woman who has worked very hard in the Lord.
13Greet Rufus, chosen in the Lord, and his mother, who has been a mother to me, too.
14Greet Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermes, Patrobas, Hermas and the other brothers and sisters with them.
15Greet Philologus, Julia, Nereus and his sister, and Olympas and all the Lord’s people who are with them.
16Greet one another with a holy kiss.
All the churches of Christ send greetings.
17I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. 18For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people. 19Everyone has heard about your obedience, so I rejoice because of you; but I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil.
20The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.
The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.
21Timothy, my co-worker, sends his greetings to you, as do Lucius, Jason and Sosipater, my fellow Jews.
22I, Tertius, who wrote down this letter, greet you in the Lord.
23Gaius, whose hospitality I and the whole church here enjoy, sends you his greetings.
Erastus, who is the city’s director of public works, and our brother Quartus send you their greetings. 24#16:24 Some manuscripts include here May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with all of you. Amen.
25Now to him who is able to establish you in accordance with my gospel, the message I proclaim about Jesus Christ, in keeping with the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past, 26but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, so that all the Gentiles might come to the obedience that comes from#16:26 Or that is faith – 27to the only wise God be glory for ever through Jesus Christ! Amen.
