Psalms 37
37
God Will Reward Fairly
Of David.
1Don’t be upset because of evil people.
Don’t be jealous of those who do wrong.
2Like the grass, they will soon dry up.
Like green plants, they will soon die away.
3Trust the Lord and do good.
Live in the land and enjoy its safety.
4Enjoy serving the Lord.
And he will give you what you want.
5Depend on the Lord.
Trust him, and he will take care of you.
6Then your goodness will shine like the sun.
Your fairness will shine like the noonday sun.
7Wait and trust the Lord.
Don’t be upset when others get rich
or when someone else’s plans succeed.
8Don’t get angry.
Don’t be upset; it only leads to trouble.
9Evil people will be sent away.
But people who trust the Lord will inherit the land.
10In a little while there will be no more wicked people.
You may look for them, but they will be gone.
11People who are not proud will inherit the land.
They will enjoy complete peace.
12The wicked make evil plans against good people.
They grind their teeth at them in anger.
13But the Lord laughs at the wicked.
He sees that their day is coming.
14The wicked draw their swords.
They bend their bows.
They try to kill the poor and helpless.
They want to kill those who are honest.
15But their swords will stab their own hearts.
Their bows will break.
16It’s better to have little and be right
than to have much and be wrong.
17The power of the wicked will be broken.
But the Lord supports those who do right.
18The Lord watches over the lives of the innocent.
Their reward will last forever.
19They will not be ashamed when trouble comes.
They will be full in times of hunger.
20But the wicked will die.
The Lord’s enemies will be like the flowers of the fields.
They will disappear like smoke.
21The wicked people borrow but don’t pay back.
But those who do right give freely to others.
22Those people the Lord blesses will inherit the land.
But those he curses will be sent away.
23When a man’s steps follow the Lord,
God is pleased with his ways.
24If he stumbles, he will not fall,
because the Lord holds his hand.
25I was young, and now I am old.
But I have never seen the Lord leave good people helpless.
I have never seen their children begging for food.
26Good people always lend freely to others.
And their children are a blessing.
27Stop doing evil and do good.
Then you will live forever.
28The Lord loves justice.
He will not leave those who worship him.
He will always protect them.
But the children of the wicked will die.
29Good people will inherit the land.
They will live in it forever.
30A good person speaks with wisdom.
He says what is fair.
31The teachings of his God are in his heart.
He does not fail to keep them.
32The wicked watch for good people.
They want to kill them.
33The Lord will not take away his protection.
He will not judge good people guilty.
34Wait for the Lord’s help
and follow him.
He will honor you and give you the land.
And you will see the wicked people sent away.
35I saw a wicked and cruel man.
He looked strong like a healthy tree in good soil.
36But he died and was gone.
I looked for him, but he couldn’t be found.
37Think of the innocent person.
Watch the honest one.
The man who has peace
will have children to live after him.
38But sinners will be destroyed.
In the end the wicked will die.
39The Lord saves good people.
He is their strong city in times of trouble.
40The Lord helps them and saves them.
He saves them from the wicked
because they trust in him for protection.

Psalm 37

The Insecurity of the Wicked
A Psalm of David.
1Fret not thyself because of evildoers,
neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.
2For they shall soon be cut down like the grass,
and wither as the green herb.
3Trust in the Lord, and do good;
so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
4Delight thyself also in the Lord;
and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
5Commit thy way unto the Lord;
trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
6And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light,
and thy judgment as the noonday.
7Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him:
fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way,
because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
8Cease from anger, and forsake wrath:
fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.
9For evildoers shall be cut off:
but those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth.
10For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be:
yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.
11 #
Matt 5.5. But the meek shall inherit the earth;
and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
12The wicked plotteth against the just,
and gnasheth upon him with his teeth.
13The Lord shall laugh at him:
for he seeth that his day is coming.
14The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow,
to cast down the poor and needy,
and to slay such as be of upright conversation.
15Their sword shall enter into their own heart,
and their bows shall be broken.
16A little that a righteous man hath
is better than the riches of many wicked.
17For the arms of the wicked shall be broken:
but the Lord upholdeth the righteous.
18The Lord knoweth the days of the upright:
and their inheritance shall be for ever.
19They shall not be ashamed in the evil time:
and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.
20But the wicked shall perish,
and the enemies of the Lord shall be as the fat of lambs:
they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away.
21The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again:
but the righteous showeth mercy, and giveth.
22For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth;
and they that be cursed of him shall be cut off.
23The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord:
and he delighteth in his way.
24Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down:
for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.
25I have been young, and now am old;
yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken,
nor his seed begging bread.
26 He is ever merciful, and lendeth;
and his seed is blessed.
27Depart from evil, and do good;
and dwell for evermore.
28For the Lord loveth judgment,
and forsaketh not his saints;
they are preserved for ever:
but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.
29The righteous shall inherit the land,
and dwell therein for ever.
30The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom,
and his tongue talketh of judgment.
31The law of his God is in his heart;
none of his steps shall slide.
32The wicked watcheth the righteous,
and seeketh to slay him.
33The Lord will not leave him in his hand,
nor condemn him when he is judged.
34Wait on the Lord, and keep his way,
and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land:
when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.
35I have seen the wicked in great power,
and spreading himself like a green bay tree.
36Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not:
yea, I sought him, but he could not be found.
37Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright:
for the end of that man is peace.
38But the transgressors shall be destroyed together:
the end of the wicked shall be cut off.
39But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord:
he is their strength in the time of trouble.
40And the Lord shall help them, and deliver them:
he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them,
because they trust in him.
