Psalms 32
32
It Is Better to Confess Sin
A maskil of David.
1Happy is the person
whose sins are forgiven,
whose wrongs are pardoned.
2Happy is the person
whom the Lord does not consider guilty.
In that person there is nothing false.
3When I kept things to myself,
I felt weak deep inside me.
I moaned all day long.
4Day and night
you punished me.
My strength was gone
as in the summer heat. Selah
5Then I confessed my sins to you.
I didn’t hide my guilt.
I said, “I will confess my sins to the Lord.”
And you forgave my guilt. Selah
6For this reason, all who obey you
should pray to you while they still can.
When troubles rise like a flood,
they will not reach them.
7You are my hiding place.
You protect me from my troubles.
You fill me with songs of salvation. Selah
8The Lord says, “I will make you wise. I will show you where to go.
I will guide you and watch over you.
9So don’t be like a horse or donkey.
They don’t understand.
They must be led with bits and reins,
or they will not come near you.”
10Wicked people have many troubles.
But the Lord’s love surrounds those who trust him.
11Good people, rejoice and be happy in the Lord.
All you whose hearts are right, sing.

Psalms 32
32
A maskil of David.
1It is a great blessing
when people are forgiven for the wrongs they have done,
when their sins are erased.#32:1 erased Or “covered over” or “atoned.”
2It is a great blessing
when the Lord says they are not guilty,
when they don’t try to hide their sins.
3Lord, I prayed to you again and again,
but I did not talk about my sins.
So I only became weaker and more miserable.
4Every day you made life harder for me.
I became like a dry land in the hot summertime. Selah
5But then I decided to confess my sins to the Lord.
I stopped hiding my guilt and told you about my sins.
And you forgave them all! Selah
6That is why your loyal followers pray to you while there is still time.
Then when trouble rises like a flood, it will not reach them.
7You are a hiding place for me.
You protect me from my troubles.
You surround me and protect me,
so I sing about the way you saved me. Selah
8The Lord says, “I will teach you
and guide you in the way you should live.
I will watch over you and be your guide.
9Don’t be like a stupid horse or mule that will not come to you
unless you put a bit in its mouth and pull it with reins.”
10Many pains will come to the wicked,
but the Lord’s faithful love will surround those who trust in him.
11Good people, rejoice and be very happy in the Lord.
All you who want to do right, rejoice!
