Deuteronomy 11
11
Great Things Israel Saw
1Love the Lord your God. Obey his orders, rules, laws and commands. 2Remember today it was not your children who saw and felt the correction of the Lord your God. They did not see his majesty, his power and his strength. 3They did not see his signs and the things he did in Egypt to the king and his whole country. 4They did not see what he did to the Egyptian army, its horses and chariots. He drowned them in the Red Sea when they were chasing you. The Lord ruined them forever. 5They did not see what he did for you in the desert until you arrived here. 6They did not see what he did to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab the Reubenite. The ground opened up and swallowed them, their families and their tents. And it swallowed up everyone who stood with them in Israel. 7It was you who saw all these great things the Lord has done.
8So obey all the commands I am giving you today. Then you will be strong. Then you can go in and take the land you are going to own. 9Then you will live a long time in that land. The Lord promised to give it to your ancestors and their descendants. It is a land where much food grows. 10The land you are going to take is not like Egypt, where you were. There you had to plant your seed. Then you had to water it, like a vegetable garden, by using your feet. 11But you will soon cross the Jordan River and take the land. It is a land of hills and valleys. It drinks rain from heaven. 12It is a land the Lord your God loves. His eyes are on it continually. He watches it from the beginning of the year to the end.
13Carefully obey the commands I am giving you today. Love the Lord your God. Serve him with your whole being. 14Then he will send rain on your land at the right time, in the fall and spring. You will be able to gather your grain, new wine and oil. 15He will put grass in the fields for your cattle. You will have plenty to eat.
16Be careful. Don’t be fooled. Don’t turn away and serve other gods. Don’t worship them. 17If you do, the Lord will become angry with you. He will shut the heavens so it will not rain. Then the land will not grow crops. And you will soon die in the good land the Lord is giving you. 18Remember my words in your hearts and souls. Write them down and tie them to your hands as a sign. Tie them on your foreheads to remind you. 19Teach them well to your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and walk along the road. Talk about them when you lie down and when you get up. 20Write them on your doors and gates. 21Then both you and your children will live a long time in the land. This is the land the Lord promised your ancestors. You will live there for as long as the skies are above the earth.
22Be careful to obey every command I am giving you to follow. Love the Lord your God. Do what he has told you to do. And be loyal to him. 23Then the Lord will force all those nations out of the land ahead of you. And you will take the land from nations that are bigger and stronger than you. 24Everywhere you step will be yours. Your land will go from the desert to Lebanon. And it will go from the Euphrates River to the Mediterranean Sea. 25No one will be able to stop you. The Lord your God will do what he promised. He will make the people afraid everywhere you go.
26See, today I am letting you choose a blessing or a curse. 27You will be blessed if you obey the commands of the Lord your God. I am giving them to you today. 28But you will be cursed if you disobey the commands of the Lord your God. So do not disobey the commands I am giving you today. Do not worship other gods you do not know. 29The Lord your God will bring you into the land you will own. Then you are to announce the blessings from Mount Gerizim. Announce the curses from Mount Ebal. 30These mountains are on the other side of the Jordan River. They are west, toward the sunset. They are near the great trees of Moreh. They are in the land of the Canaanites who live in the Jordan Valley opposite Gilgal. 31You will soon cross the Jordan River. You will enter and take the land the Lord your God is giving you. You will take it over and live there. 32Then be careful to obey all the commands and laws I am giving you today.

Deuteronomy 11
11
1‘And thou hast loved Jehovah thy God, and kept His charge, and His statutes, and His judgments, and His commands, all the days;
2and ye have known to-day — for it is not your sons who have not known, and who have not seen the chastisement of Jehovah your God, His greatness, His strong hand, and His stretched-out arm,
3and His signs, and His doings, which He hath done in the midst of Egypt, to Pharaoh king of Egypt, and to all his land;
4and that which He hath done to the force of Egypt, to its horses, and to its chariot, when He hath caused the waters of the Red Sea to flow against their faces in their pursuing after them, and Jehovah destroyeth them, unto this day;
5and that which He hath done to you in the wilderness, till your coming in unto this place;
6and that which He hath done to Dathan, and to Abiram, sons of Eliab, sons of Reuben, when the earth hath opened her mouth and swalloweth them, and their houses, and their tents, and all that liveth, which is at their feet, in the midst of all Israel:
7‘ — But [it is] your eyes which are seeing all the great work of Jehovah, which He hath done;
8and ye have kept all the command which I am commanding thee to-day, so that ye are strong, and have gone in, and possessed the land whither ye are passing over to possess it,
9and so that ye prolong days on the ground which Jehovah hath sworn to your fathers to give to them and to their seed — a land flowing with milk and honey.
10‘For the land whither thou art going in to possess it, is not as the land of Egypt whence ye have come out, where thou sowest thy seed, and hast watered with thy foot, as a garden of the green herb;
11but the land whither ye are passing over to possess it, [is] a land of hills and valleys; of the rain of the heavens it drinketh water;
12a land which Jehovah thy God is searching; continually [are] the eyes of Jehovah thy God upon it, from the beginning of the year even unto the latter end of the year.
13‘And it hath been — if thou hearken diligently unto My commands which I am commanding you to-day, to love Jehovah your God, and to serve Him with all your heart, and with all your soul —
14that I have given the rain of your land in its season — sprinkling and gathered — and thou hast gathered thy corn, and thy new wine, and thine oil,
15and I have given herbs in thy field for thy cattle, and thou hast eaten, and been satisfied.
16‘Take heed to yourselves, lest your heart be enticed, and ye have turned aside, and served other gods, and bowed yourselves to them,
17and the anger of Jehovah hath burned against you, and He hath restrained the heavens, and there is no rain, and the ground doth not give her increase, and ye have perished hastily from off the good land which Jehovah is giving to you.
18‘And ye have placed these my words on your heart, and on your soul, and have bound them for a sign on your hand, and they have been for frontlets between your eyes;
19and ye have taught them to your sons, by speaking of them in thy sitting in thy house, and in thy going in the way, and in thy lying down, and in thy rising up,
20and hast written them on the side-posts of thy house, and on thy gates,
21so that your days are multiplied, and the days of your sons, on the ground which Jehovah hath sworn to your fathers to give to them, as the days of the heavens on the earth.
22‘For, if ye diligently keep all this command which I am commanding you — to do it, to love Jehovah your God, to walk in all His ways, and to cleave to Him,
23then hath Jehovah dispossessed all these nations from before you, and ye have possessed nations, greater and mightier than you;
24every place on which the sole of your foot treadeth is yours; from the wilderness, and Lebanon, from the river, the river Phrat, even unto the farther sea is your border;
25no man doth station himself in your presence; your dread and your fear doth Jehovah your God put on the face of all the land on which ye tread, as He hath spoken to you.
26‘See, I am setting before you to-day a blessing and a reviling:
27the blessing, when ye hearken unto the commands of Jehovah your God, which I am commanding you to-day;
28and the reviling, if ye do not hearken unto the commands of Jehovah your God, and have turned aside out of the way which I am commanding you to-day, to go after other gods which ye have not known.
29‘And it hath been, when Jehovah thy God doth bring thee in unto the land whither thou art going in to possess it, that thou hast given the blessing on mount Gerizim, and the reviling on mount Ebal;
30are they not beyond the Jordan, behind the way of the going in of the sun, in the land of the Canaanite, who is dwelling in the plain over-against Gilgal, near the oaks of Moreh?
31for ye are passing over the Jordan to go in to possess the land which Jehovah your God is giving to you; and ye have possessed it, and dwelt in it,
32and observed to do all the statutes and the judgments which I am setting before you to day.
