1 Kings 15

Abijam King of Judah
1Abijam became king of Judah. This was during the eighteenth year Jeroboam son of Nebat ruled Israel. 2And Abijam ruled in Jerusalem for three years. His mother was Maacah daughter of Abishalom. 3He did all the same sins his father before him had done. Abijam was not faithful to the Lord his God. In this way he was not like David, his great-grandfather. 4Because the Lord had loved David, the Lord gave Abijam a kingdom in Jerusalem. And the Lord allowed him to have a son to be king after him. The Lord also kept Jerusalem safe. 5David had always done what the Lord said was right. All his life he had always obeyed the Lord’s commands. There was only one time David did not obey the Lord. This was when he sinned against Uriah the Hittite.
6Now there was war between Abijam and Jeroboam during Abijam’s lifetime. 7Everything else Abijam did is written down. It is in the book of the history of the kings of Judah. During the time Abijam ruled, there was war between Abijam and Jeroboam. 8And Abijam died and was buried in Jerusalem. Abijam’s son Asa became king in his place.
Asa King of Judah
9During the twentieth year Jeroboam was king of Israel, Asa became king of Judah. 10Asa ruled in Jerusalem for 41 years. His grandmother’s name was Maacah. She was the daughter of Abishalom.
11Asa did what the Lord said was right. This was as his ancestor David had done. 12There were male prostitutes at the places where false gods were worshiped. Asa forced them to leave the country. He also took away the idols that his ancestors had made. 13His grandmother Maacah had made a terrible Asherah idol. So Asa removed her from being queen. He cut down this idol and burned it in the Kidron Valley. 14Asa was faithful to the Lord all his life. But he did not destroy the places where false gods were worshiped. 15Asa and his father had given some things to God. They had given gifts of gold, silver and other objects. Asa put all these things in the Temple.
16There was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel. 17Baasha fought against Judah. He wanted to stop people from leaving or entering Asa’s country, Judah. So he made the city of Ramah very strong.
18Then Asa took all the silver and gold from the treasuries of the Temple of the Lord and his own palace. He gave it to his officers. And he sent them to Ben-Hadad king of Aram. (Ben-Hadad was the son of Tabrimmon. And he was the son of Hezion.) Ben-Hadad was ruling in the city of Damascus. 19Asa sent this message: “My father and your father had a peace agreement. I am sending you a gift of gold and silver. Break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel so that he will leave my land.”
20Ben-Hadad agreed with King Asa. So he sent his army to fight against the towns of Israel. He defeated the towns of Ijon, Dan and Abel Bethmaacah. And he defeated all the land near Lake Galilee and the area of Naphtali. 21Baasha heard about these attacks. So he stopped building up Ramah and returned to Tirzah. 22Then King Asa gave an order to all the people of Judah. Everyone had to help. They carried away all the stones and wood Baasha had been using in Ramah. King Asa used those things to build up Geba and Mizpah. (Geba was in the land of Benjamin.)
23Everything else Asa did is written down. His victories and the cities he built are written down. They are in the book of the history of the kings of Judah. When he became old, he got a disease in his feet. 24Then Asa died. And he was buried with his ancestors in Jerusalem. It was the city of David, his ancestor. Then Jehoshaphat, Asa’s son, became king in his place.
Nadab King of Israel
25Nadab son of Jeroboam became king of Israel. This was during the second year Asa was king of Judah. And Nadab was king of Israel for two years. 26He did what the Lord said was wrong. Jeroboam had caused the people of Israel to sin. Nadab sinned in the same way his father Jeroboam had sinned.
27Baasha son of Ahijah was from the tribe of Issachar. He made plans to kill Nadab. Nadab and all Israel were attacking the Philistine town of Gibbethon. So Baasha killed Nadab there. 28This happened during Asa’s third year as king of Judah. And Baasha became the next king of Israel.
Baasha King of Israel
29As soon as Baasha became king, he killed all of Jeroboam’s family. He left no one in Jeroboam’s family alive. This happened as the Lord had said it would. The Lord had said this through his servant Ahijah from Shiloh. 30This happened because King Jeroboam had sinned very much. And he had caused the people of Israel to sin. Jeroboam had made the Lord, the God of Israel, very angry.
31Everything else Nadab did is written down. It is in the book of the history of the kings of Israel. 32There was war between Asa king of Judah and Baasha king of Israel all the time they were kings.
33Baasha son of Ahijah became king of Israel. This was during Asa’s third year as king of Judah. And Baasha ruled in Tirzah for 24 years. 34But Baasha did what the Lord said was wrong. Jeroboam had caused the people of Israel to sin. And Baasha sinned in the same way Jeroboam had sinned.

3 Kings 15
15
1Now, in the eighteenth year of the reign of Jeroboam the son of Nabat, Abiam reigned over Juda.
2He reigned three years in Jerusalem. The name of his mother was Maacha the daughter of Abessalom.
3And he walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done before him: end his heart was not perfect with the Lord his God, as was the heart of David his father.
4But for David's sake the Lord his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem, to set up his son after him, and to establish Jerusalem:
5Because David had done that which was right in the eyes of the Lord, and had not turned aside from any thing that he commanded him, all the days of his life, except the matter of Urias the Hethite.
6But there was war between Roboam and Jeroboam all the time of his life.
7And the rest of the words of Abiam, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Juda? And there was war between Abiam and Jeroboam.
8And Abiam slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David. And Asa his son reigned in his stead.
9So in the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel reigned Asa king of Juda.
10And he reigned one and forty years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Maacha, the daughter of Abessalom.
11And Asa did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, as did David his father.
12And he took away the effeminate out of the land: and he removed all the filth of the idols, which his fathers had made.
13Moreover he also removed his mother Maacha, from being the princess in the sacrifices of Priapus, and in the grove which she had consecrated to him. And he destroyed her den, and broke in pieces the filthy idol, and burnt it by the torrent Cedron.
14But the high places he did not take away. Nevertheless the heart of Asa was perfect with the Lord all his days.
15And he brought in the things which his father had dedicated, and he had vowed, into the house of the Lord: silver and gold, and vessels.
16And there was war between Asa and Baasa king of Israel all their days.
17And Baasa king of Israel went up against Juda, and built Rama, that no man might go out or come in, of the side of Asa king of Juda.
18Then Asa took all the silver and gold that remained in the treasures of the house of the Lord, and in the treasures of the king's house, and delivered it into the hands of his servants. And sent them to Benadad son of Tabremon the son of Hezion, king of Syria, who dwelt in Damascus, saying:
19There is a league between me and thee, and between my father and thy father. Therefore I have sent thee presents of silver and gold: and I desire thee to come, and break thy league with Baasa king of Israel, that he may depart from me.
20Benadad hearkening to king Asa sent the captains of his army against the cities of Israel: and they smote Ahion, and Dan, and Abeldomum Maacha, and all Cenneroth, that is all the land of Nephtali.
21And when Baasa had heard this, he left off building Rama, and returned into Thersa.
22But king Asa sent word into all Juda, saying: Let no man be excused. And they took away the stones from Rama, and the timber thereof, wherewith Baasa had been building: and with them Asa built Gabaa of Benjamin, and Maspha.
23But the rest of all the acts of Asa, and all his strength, and all that he did, and the cities that he built, are they not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Juda? But in the time of his old age he was diseased in his feet.
24And he slept with his fathers: and was buried with them in the city of David his father. And Josaphat his son reigned in his place.
25But Nadab the son of Jeroboam reigned over Israel the second year of Asa king of Juda: and he reigned over Israel two years.
26And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the ways of his father, and in his sins, wherewith he made Israel to sin.
27And Baasa the son of Ahias of the house of Issachar, conspired against him, and slew him in Gebbethon, which is a city of the Philistines: for Nadab and all Israel besieged Gebbethon.
28So Baasa slew him in the third year of Asa king of Juda; and reigned in his place.
29And when he was king he cut off all the house of Jeroboam. He left not so much as one soul of his seed, till he had utterly destroyed him, according to the word of the Lord, which he had spoken in the hand of Ahias the Silonite:
30Because of the sin of Jeroboam, which he had sinned, and wherewith he had made Israel to sin, and for the offence, wherewith he provoked the Lord the God of Israel.
31But the rest of the acts of Nadab, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?
32And there was war between Asa and Baasa, the king of Israel, all their days.
33In the third year of Asa, king of Juda, Baasa the son of Ahias reigned over all Israel, in Thersa, four and twenty years.
34And he did evil before the Lord, and walked in the ways of Jeroboam, and in his sins, wherewith he made Israel to sin.
