1 Chronicles 16
16
1They brought the Ark of the Covenant of God and put it inside the tent. This was the tent David had set up for it. Then they offered burnt offerings and fellowship offerings to God. 2David finished giving the burnt offerings and fellowship offerings. Then he used the Lord’s name to bless the people. 3He gave a loaf of bread, some dates and raisins to every Israelite man and woman.
4Then David appointed some of the Levites to serve before the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord. They had the job of leading the worship. They gave thanks and praise to the Lord, the God of Israel. 5Asaph was the leader. He played the cymbals. Zechariah was second to him. The other Levites were Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-Edom and Jeiel. They played the lyres and harps. 6Benaiah and Jahaziel were priests. They blew the trumpets regularly before the Ark of the Covenant with God. 7That day David first gave Asaph and his relatives the job of singing praises to the Lord.
David’s Song of Thanks
8Give thanks to the Lord and pray to him.
Tell the nations what he has done.
9Sing to him. Sing praises to him.
Tell about all the wonderful things he has done.
10Be glad that you are his.
Let those who ask the Lord for help be happy.
11Depend on the Lord and his strength.
Always go to him for help.
12Remember the wonderful things he has done.
Remember his miracles and his decisions.
13You are the descendants of Israel, the Lord’s servant.
You are the children of Jacob, his chosen people.
14He is the Lord our God.
His laws are for all the world.
15He will keep his agreement forever.
He will keep his promises always.
16He will keep the agreement he made with Abraham.
He will keep the promise he made to Isaac.
17The Lord made it a law for the people of Jacob.
He made it an agreement with Israel to last forever.
18The Lord said, “I will give you the land of Canaan. The promised land will belong to you.”
19Then God’s people were few in number.
They were strangers in the land.
20They went from one nation to another.
They went from one kingdom to another.
21But the Lord did not let anyone hurt them.
He warned kings not to harm them.
22He said, “Don’t hurt my chosen people.
Don’t harm my prophets.”
23Sing to the Lord, all the earth.
Every day tell how he saves us.
24Tell the nations about the Lord’s glory.
Tell all peoples about his wonderful works.
25The Lord is great; he should be praised.
He should be honored more than all the gods.
26All the gods of the nations are only idols.
But the Lord made the skies.
27The Lord has glory and majesty.
He has power and joy in his Temple.
28Praise the Lord, all nations on earth.
Praise the Lord’s glory and power.
29Praise the Lord for the glory of his name.
Bring your offering to him.
Worship the Lord because he is holy.
30The whole earth should tremble before the Lord.
The earth is set, and it cannot be moved.
31Let the skies rejoice and the earth be glad.
Let people everywhere say, “The Lord is king!”
32Let the sea and everything in it shout.
Let the fields and everything in them show their joy.
33Then the trees of the forest will sing.
They will sing with joy before the Lord.
They will sing because the Lord is coming to judge the world.
34Thank the Lord because he is good.
His love continues forever.
35Say to him, “Save us, God our Savior.
Bring us back and save us from the nations.
Then we will thank you.
Then we will gladly praise you.”
36Praise the Lord, the God of Israel,
forever and forever.
All the people said, “Amen” and “Praise the Lord.”
37Then David left Asaph and the other Levites there in front of the Ark of the Covenant with the Lord. They were to serve there every day. 38David also left Obed-Edom and 68 other Levites to serve with them. Hosah and Obed-Edom son of Jeduthun were guards.
39David left Zadok the priest and the other priests who served with him in front of the Tent of the Lord. This was at the place of worship in Gibeon. 40Every morning and evening they offered burnt offerings on the altar of burnt offerings. They did this to follow the rules written in the Teachings of the Lord. These were the Teachings he had given Israel. 41With them were Heman and Jeduthun and other Levites. They were chosen by name to sing praises to the Lord because the Lord’s love continues forever. 42Heman and Jeduthun also had the job of playing the trumpets and cymbals. They also played other musical instruments when songs were sung to God. Jeduthun’s sons guarded the gates.
43Then all the people left. Each person went to his own home. And David also went home to bless his family.

1 Chronicles 16
16
1They put the sacred chest inside the tent that David had set up for it, then they offered sacrifices to please the Lord#16.1 sacrifices to please the Lord: These sacrifices have traditionally been called “whole burnt offerings” because the whole animal was burned on the altar. A main purpose of such sacrifices was to please the Lord with the smell of the sacrifice, and so in the CEV they are often called “sacrifices to please the Lord.” and sacrifices to ask his blessing.#16.1 sacrifices to ask his blessing: These sacrifices have traditionally been called “peace offerings” or “offerings of well-being.” A main purpose was to ask for the Lord's blessing, and so in the CEV they are sometimes called “sacrifices to ask the Lord's blessing.” 2After David had finished, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord 3and gave every person in the crowd a small loaf of bread, some meat, and a handful of raisins.
4David appointed some of the Levites to serve at the sacred chest; they were to play music and sing praises to the Lord God of Israel. 5Asaph was their leader, and Zechariah was his assistant. Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-Edom, and another man named Jeiel were appointed to play small harps and stringed instruments. Asaph himself played the cymbals, 6and the two priests Benaiah and Jahaziel were to blow trumpets every day in front of the sacred chest.
David's Song of Praise
(Psalms 105.1-15; 96.1-13; 106.1,47,48)
7That same day, David instructed Asaph and his relatives for the first time to sing these praises to the Lord:
8Praise the Lord
and pray in his name!
Tell everyone
what he has done.
9Sing praises to the Lord!
Tell about his miracles.
10Celebrate and worship
his holy name
with all your heart.
11Trust the Lord
and his mighty power.
Worship him always.
12Remember his miracles
and all his wonders
and his fair decisions.
13You belong to the family
of Israel, his servant;
you are his chosen ones,
the descendants of Jacob.
14The Lord is our God,
bringing justice
everywhere on earth.
15We must never forget
his agreement and his promises,
not in thousands of years.
* 16#Gn 12.7; Gn 26.3; Gn 28.13. God made an eternal promise
17to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob
18when he said, “I'll give you
the land of Canaan.”
19At the time there were
only a few of us,
and we were homeless.
20We wandered from nation
to nation, from one country
to another.
21 #
Gn 20.3-7. God did not let anyone
mistreat our people.
Instead he protected us
by punishing rulers
22and telling them,
“Don't touch my chosen leaders
or harm my prophets!”
23Everyone on this earth,
sing praises to the Lord.
Day after day announce,
“The Lord has saved us!”
24Tell every nation on earth,
“The Lord is wonderful
and does marvelous things!
25The Lord is great and deserves
our greatest praise!
He is the only God
worthy of our worship.
26Other nations worship idols,
but the Lord created
the heavens.
27Give honor and praise
to the Lord,
whose power and beauty
fill his holy temple.”
28Tell everyone of every nation,
“Praise the glorious power
of the Lord.
29He is wonderful! Praise him
and bring an offering
into his temple.
Worship the Lord,
majestic and holy.
30Everyone on earth, now tremble!”
The world stands firm,
never to be shaken.
31Tell the heavens and the earth
to be glad and celebrate!
And announce to the nations,
“The Lord is King!”
32Command the ocean to roar
with all of its creatures
and the fields to rejoice
with all of their crops.
33Then every tree in the forest
will sing joyful songs
to the Lord.
He is coming to judge
all people on earth.

36 Lord God of Israel,
you deserve to be praised
forever and ever.”
After David finished, the people shouted, “Amen! Praise the Lord!”
David Appoints Worship Leaders at Jerusalem and Gibeon
37David chose Asaph and the Levites in his clan to be in charge of the daily worship at the place where the sacred chest was kept. 38Obed-Edom and 68 of his relatives were their assistants, and Hosah and Obed-Edom the son of Jeduthun were the guards.
39David also chose Zadok the priest and his relatives who were priests to serve at the Lord's sacred tent at Gibeon. 40They were to offer sacrifices on the altar every morning and evening, just as the Lord had commanded in the Law he gave Israel. 41#2 Ch 5.11-13; 3 Macc 6.32.
