Tehillim 56

(For the director. Set to The Silent, Distant Yonah. Of Dovid. A mikhtam — when the Pelishtim seized him in Gat)
1 Chaneini (be merciful) unto me, O Elohim: for enosh (man) tramples upon me; kol hayom they press their attack against me.
2 Mine adversaries kol hayom trample me; for they be rabbim that fight against me, Marom (Most High).
3 What time I am afraid, I will trust in Thee.
4 In Elohim I will praise His Word.#56:4 See Jn 1:1,14 In Elohim I have put my trust; I will not fear what basar can do unto me.
5 Kol hayom they twist my words; all their machsh'vot (thoughts) are against me for rah (evil).
6 They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they are shomer over my steps, when they wait for my nefesh.
7 Shall they escape by iniquity? In Thine anger cast down the amim (peoples), O Elohim.
8 Thou hast acted as a sofer, recording my wanderings; put Thou my tears into Thy wineskin; are they not in Thy Sefer (Book)?
9 On the day when I cry unto Thee, then shall mine oyevim turn back; of this I have da'as; for Elohim is for me.#56:9 Ro 8:31
10 In Elohim will I praise His Word; in Hashem will I praise His Word.#56:10 Jn 1:1; Prov 30:4; Ps 33:6; Prov 8:30
11 In Elohim have I put my trust; I will not be afraid. What can adam do unto me?
12 Thy nederim are upon me, O Elohim; I will render todot (thank offerings) unto Thee.
13 For Thou hast delivered my nefesh from mavet (death). Wilt not Thou deliver my feet from stumblimg, that I may walk before Elohim in the Ohr HaChayyim (the light of the living)?

Trust in God
1For the director. According to Yonath elem rehoqim.#Yonath elem rehoqim: Hebrew words probably designating the melody to which the Psalm was to be sung. A miktam of David, when the Philistines seized him at Gath.#1 Sm 21:10.
I
2Have mercy on me, God,
for I am treated harshly;
attackers press me all the day.
3My foes treat me harshly all the day;
yes, many are my attackers.
O Most High, 4when I am afraid,
in you I place my trust.
5I praise the word of God;
I trust in God, I do not fear.#Ps 130:5.
What can mere flesh do to me?#Ps 118:6; Heb 13:6.
II
6All the day they foil my plans;
their every thought is of evil against me.
7They hide together in ambush;
they watch my every step;
they lie in wait for my life.#Ps 140:5–6.
8They are evil; watch them, God!
Cast the nations down in your anger!
9My wanderings you have noted;
are my tears not stored in your flask,#Are my tears not stored in your flask: a unique saying in the Old Testament. The context suggests that the tears are saved because they are precious; God puts a high value on each of the psalmist’s troubles.
recorded in your book?#Ps 10:14; 2 Kgs 20:5; Is 25:8; Rev 7:17.
10My foes turn back when I call on you.
This I know: God is on my side.
11I praise the word of God,
I praise the word of the Lord.
12In God I trust, I do not fear.
What can man do to me?
III
13I have made vows to you, God;
with offerings I will fulfill them,#Nm 30:3.
14For you have snatched me from death,
kept my feet from stumbling,
That I may walk before God
in the light of the living.
