Iyov 8

1Then answered Bildad the Shuchi, and said,
2How long wilt thou speak these things? And how long shall the words of thy mouth be like a raging ruach (wind)?
3Doth El pervert mishpat (justice)? Or doth Shaddai pervert tzedek?
4If thy banim have sinned against Him, and He have cast them away for their peysha (transgression);
5If thou wouldest seek El (G-d) earnestly, and make thy techinnah (supplication) to Shaddai;
6If thou wert pure and yashar; surely now He would rouse Himself for thee, and restore the habitation of thy tzedek.
7Though thy reshit (beginning) was small, yet thy acharit (end) shall be exceedingly great.
8For inquire, now, of the dor rishon (former age), and consider the research of their avot;
9— For we are but of temol (yesterday, etmol) and know nothing, because yameinu (our days) upon earth are a tzel (shadow) —
10Shall not they teach thee, and tell thee, and bring forth words out of their lev?
11Can the papyrus grow up without marsh? Can the reed grow without mayim?
12Whilst it is yet in its greenness, and not cut down, it withereth before kol khatzir (all grass).
13So are the paths of all that forget El (G-d), and the tikvat chanef (hope of the hypocrite, the irreligious, the secretly wicked profane person) shall perish,
14Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose reliance shall be a bais akavish (spiderʼs web).
15He shall lean upon his bais, but it shall not stand, he shall cling to it, but it shall not hold.
16He is like a green plant before the shemesh, and its branch shooteth forth in its gan (garden).
17Its shorashim (roots) are wrapped about the rock heap, and it looks on the bais avanim (place of stones).
18But when cast away from its makom, then its place shall deny it, saying, Loh re'iticha (I never saw thee).
19Behold, thus was the joy of its derech, and others spring forth from the aphar (dust).
20Surely El (G-d) will not cast away a blameless man, neither will He help the resha'im (evil-doers);
21Till He fill thy mouth with sechok (laughter), and thy lips with teruah (shouts of joy).
22They that hate thee shall be clothed with bushah (shame), and the ohel resha'im shall be no more.

Job 8

Bildad: Job Should Repent
1Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said:
2“How long will you speak these things,
And the words of your mouth be like a strong wind?
3#Gen. 18:25; (Deut. 32:4; 2 Chr. 19:7; Job 34:10, 12; 36:23; 37:23); Rom. 3:5Does God subvert judgment?
Or does the Almighty pervert justice?
4If #Job 1:5, 18, 19your sons have sinned against Him,
He has cast them away for their transgression.
5#(Job 5:17–27; 11:13)If you would earnestly seek God
And make your supplication to the Almighty,
6If you were pure and upright,
Surely now He would awake for you,
And prosper your rightful dwelling place.
7Though your beginning was small,
Yet your latter end would #Job 42:12increase abundantly.
8“For#Deut. 4:32; 32:7; Job 15:18; 20:4 inquire, please, of the former age,
And consider the things discovered by their fathers;
9For #Gen. 47:9; (1 Chr. 29:15); Job 7:6; (Ps. 39:5; 102:11; 144:4)we were born yesterday, and know nothing,
Because our days on earth are a shadow.
10Will they not teach you and tell you,
And utter words from their heart?
11“Can the papyrus grow up without a marsh?
Can the reeds flourish without water?
12#Ps. 129:6While it is yet green and not cut down,
It withers before any other plant.
13So are the paths of all who #Ps. 9:17forget God;
And the hope of the #Job 11:20; 18:14; 27:8; Ps. 112:10; (Prov. 10:28)hypocrite shall perish,
14Whose confidence shall be cut off,
And whose trust is a spider’s web.
15#Job 8:22; 27:18; Ps. 49:11He leans on his house, but it does not stand.
He holds it fast, but it does not endure.
16He grows green in the sun,
And his branches spread out in his garden.
17His roots wrap around the rock heap,
And look for a place in the stones.
18#Job 7:10If he is destroyed from his place,
Then it will deny him, saying, ‘I have not seen you.’
19“Behold, this is the joy of His way,
And #Ps. 113:7out of the earth others will grow.
20Behold, #Job 4:7God will not cast away the blameless,
Nor will He uphold the evildoers.
21He will yet fill your mouth with laughing,
And your lips with rejoicing.
22Those who hate you will be #Ps. 35:26; 109:29clothed with shame,
And the dwelling place of the wicked will come to nothing.”
